UKMustangFan Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 So a few weeks back I posted about our dog having a seizure. Since then he's been his normal crazy, fun-loving self. Until Tuesday night. Just before we were supposed to leave for the NKU basketball game the little man had another seizure. We monitored him, and he returned to himself shortly after. Then at 10 pm, he had another one. At this point we called my cousin, who's a vet, and she told us to just monitor him closely and if he had another we needed to go to the hospital with him. So come 4:30 am yesterday morning, he wakes us up having his third in less than 12 hours. We take him to the hospital where they check him out and decide it's time to get him on anti-seizure medication. As they're bringing him out to us to administer the first dose, he seizes for the 4th time in 12 hours. They were able to give him a few IVs to bring him out of it and give him his first dose of medication, and they let us take him home as his vet opened in about an hour and we were taking him there first thing. So our vet prescribes us some stronger anti-seizure meds and tells us to start them first thing today (Thursday morning) and use what the hospital gave us until then. We get him home around 10:30 am and he's his normal crazy playing self. At just before 6 pm last night, he had his 5th in 24 hours. We gave him more medication and he made it through the night without any more. That brings me to this morning. Wife and I both had to go to work today. Far and away the hardest thing I've ever done, and I know that probably sounds dumb to a lot of people, but leaving that little guy home alone today was gut-wrenching. I have no clue how I'm going to get any work done or even get through the day. I'm a complete wreck today, and my wife is probably worse; she was balling her eyes out as she was leaving. Any thoughts/prayers or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated today.
changeup Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Prayers to you UK. Hang in there. Those of us that have a dog know how much love they bring to the entire family. I hope he can get through this.

I feel for you brother. A year ago I never would have understood but I totally get it now. Got that sick feeling in my stomach just from reading it, so I can't imagine. Maybe think about picking up one of those puppy cameras or whatever they are that you can setup and check in? Don't know how much that would help you, if you couldn't leave work if there was a situation, but might put your mind more at ease if there wasn't one.

I don't have pets, isn't there some type of facility in for situations like this?
NKYknowitall Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Yikes! Hope everything turns out well. I can't imagine what i'd do if that were my pup.
OlDog75 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I'm wondering if separation anxiety is triggering these, although you'd surely want to know if there is also something physically wrong. I'd say he has probably had a few seizures when you folks weren't home and he was obviously able to come out of them. That many in a row that fast is troubling though. My wife had a terripoo that would have seizures which would last a minute or two and then be fine. We were told it was a genetic issue and were given medication for him.
nkuclubbaseball19 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I know the feeling UKMF. When my dog was sick I didn't sleep. And work was unbearable. I feel for you brother. A year ago I never would have understood but I totally get it now. Got that sick feeling in my stomach just from reading it, so I can't imagine. Maybe think about picking up one of those puppy cameras or whatever they are that you can setup and check in? If you have an old iPod or iPhone laying around and have wifi at home, you can download an app called Presence. It will notify you of movements and you can watch a live feed on your current phone.
kygirl Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Thoughts and prayers for you. Hope all goes well today.
WhoozYoDaddy Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 That is rough. Ours is like a family member and I can imagine your distress in a situation like this. Hoping for the best for you and the pup.
TTS_JF Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Best of luck; My mom's dog had the same type issues until they got his medicine correct. I've been away from my dog this week and can't wait to get home and see her; plus I'll get to see my wife.
UKMustangFan Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 Thanks everyone. My Dad was able to stop over from about 9am to just after noon and he said that he was acting like his normal self, tiring him out constantly wanting to play fetch. Really lifted mine, and more importantly, my wife's spirits. She should be home with him in the next 15 minutes or so, so hoping he's been alright the past few hours.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Glad to hear that it sounds like he was doing good for that part of the day!
True blue (and gold) Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Prayers for you, UKMF. Let us know who things are going (when you can.)
UKMustangFan Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Quick update: Little man made it through yesterday seizure free. Really appears that the medicine is working, as he's been almost 48 hours since his last one. He hasn't really been his self since starting the medication, but as long as he's seizure free, we can deal with the personality and mood shift.
