What's the date on Newport Catholic game?

 

September 9th

Warrensville is definitely AA. Does anyone know if this is a 2 yr deal or just for 2016? Didn't know if we were returning the favor next year?

Belfry gets a nice challenge this weekend in their first scrimmage at Richlands, VA

 

This is a jamboree type format with 4 teams scrimmaging each other and it has been really beneficial the past 3 or 4 years.

 

2016 should be the best competition since Belfry has been going down there and that says a lot.

 

RICHLANDS- The Blue Tornado are a top tier program in Virginia Class 2A and last year lost a heartbreaker in the Quarterfinals to the eventual State Champs Appomattox County. Richlands had a late lead and let Appomattox come back and force OT where they then lost. Appo County would then win their Semi-Finals and Finals games by a combined margin of 99-12.

 

Richlands opens the year as the Pre-Season #2 team in Virginia 2A and are loaded on Offense. They have an excellent lefty QB (I think he was a 3000 yard passer) and all of his WR's back.

 

 

 

GEORGE WYTHE- George Wythe has always been a participant in this jamboree and always a solid team that I compare to Pikeville. They open the year as the Pre-Season #1 in Virginia 1A. Last year they reached the State Semi's and return almost everyone. They are led by a very god 6'2 200 Dual Threat QB Deacon Beamer. Richlands will test Belfry with the spread passing game and GW will test them with the spread running game as they do a ton of Read Option.

 

PULASKI COUNTY (VA)- Pulaski is a 4A school (KY they would be 5A) and are coming off a pretty sharp 2015. Pulaski finished the regular season 9-1 with their lone loss coming to eventual 4A State Champions, Salem. They return a 6'0 189 RB Hunter Thomas with 4.5 speed who ran for 1700 yards last year. They also return their starting QB and an excellent 6'2 225 WR/FS Jamall Edmonds.

It is a bit of a drive for a scrimmage, but I really like that we are a part of this event.

 

Belfry gains a lot from this scrimmage each year. The format gives them multiple looks on both sides of the ball and the competition is at a high level. Richlands does a good job of running this grid and things always seem to move efficiently at a good pace. They split the field, so all 4 teams are working at the same time running from the 50 to the goal line. The event is long enough where everybody gets a chance to participate and the coaches get to see them all and evaluate them vs 3 different offenses and defenses.

A couple of years ago I got a really good laugh after this scrimmage as I was walking back to my truck. I was with my dad and a buddy of his and a lady from Richlands walked up to me and said "You must be a real man".

 

My compadres rolled their eyes but I just grinned and said, "Yes, Ma'am, I am"

 

Then she dropped the bomb and said "Anybody who would wear those shoes out in public would have to be" :laugh:

 

My shoes were kind of loud but that was uncalled for. LOL

From what I am hearing Belfry is not going to play Wellman or Dotson tonight.

 

Horton and Hall expected to be very limited.

 

Those young LB'ers are about to be tested big time.

 

All injuries are minor and shouldn't keep them from opening the season.

-Belfry gets a long Catron TD and a beautiful long TD pass to Varney on their first set of 10

- Belfry holds GW Scoreless the rest of the way

- The Belfry JV scores once on GW making it 3-1

-Belfry doesn't score on their first 10 against Richlands

-Richlands gets a long catch and run TD on the crossing pattern after Belfry stonewalls them for 5 plays

- Belfry scores on play 10 using Fletcher with their makeshift OLine

- Richlands 1s and 2s Offense gets a TD pass on Belfry's 1s and 2s, they get another one as well

3-1 Richlands before they both go completely JV

Overall pretty good showing...

No Woolum, Wellman, Scott, or Preece all night

Dotson only played one Series against Pulaski and none the rest of the way

Hall only played against Pulaski and none the rest of the way

Horton subbed liberally, played maybe 1/4 of the total snaps
