February 15, 201610 yr Loved every second of it. Why would anyone want to see defense in an All Star Game? I don't really care but it was like watching a shoot around basically.
February 15, 201610 yr This is what I don't understand. An All-Star game is not supposed to be a defensive battle. It is supposed to show case the awesomeness of these professional athletes. Last night did exactly that. To be fair, isn't defense part of what makes some players "awesome"? It is what it is...I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. It really isn't much different than the pro bowl. No one plays defense...

February 16, 201610 yr This is what I don't understand. An All-Star game is not supposed to be a defensive battle. It is supposed to show case the awesomeness of these professional athletes. Last night did exactly that. I feel like making a contested three, or driving the lane and dunking on someone trying to guard you or block your shot. Shows their awesomeness more than shooting unguarded three point shots, or wide open drives to the lane. At this point you could put street ball players that are good at shooting or good at dunking and look the same. These players are the best because they can do all these things while someone is trying to stop them. So IMO it would be even more fun to see the best players in the world competiting to shut down each other and showing that the player trying to guard them can't stop them no matter how hard they try. Shoot the way the all star game is played, I would even be able to score a basket with as many open looks that are just given to guys, and I suck at basketball lol.

That second paragraph is a description of the playoffs.
February 17, 201610 yr I grew up watching Magic, Bird and Dr. J. I thought the product suffered during the 90s and a lot of that was because I think the league became a defensive league. There was some brutal basketball during that time. I feel like now there is more overall talent in the league than ever before but I also think the basic fundamentals of the game are pretty low. Long story short, I think the NBA now is at its best it has been since the 80s. I haven't been this entertained by the NBA in quite some time and for me being a Laker fan that is saying a lot considering how awful they are. :lol2: TOTALLY AGREE PP. Give me Bird against Magic, DJ against Andrew Toney, Kareem against McHale and Parrish, Bird trying to back down Coop, Worthy, Doc, MJ. etc. That was the best the NBA ever was and then the hand checking got out of control with Riley and the Knicks and the Bad Boy Pistons...not as fun. There are SO MANY unbelievably talented players and they are allowed to play again. I love the NBA now. Not as great as the 80's IMO but that is probably more about my age than anything.
February 17, 201610 yr That second paragraph is a description of the playoffs. Kind of but also features role players. It is still not the best all stars on the planet and NBA going against each other. For the record I love the NBA playoffs. Which is why I would love if the all star game did have people trying to play defense. I know that won't happen because people don't want to risk injury, but I just disagree when people say if players were trying it wouldn't be better. Imo it would be as fun as watching the NBA finals watching the all stars go all out against each other.

I don't disagree, and were they to play harder it might increase the importance of being named an all star, but I don't want the Finals hampered by a freak accident.
