Trump isn't suggesting to temporarily ban Muslims (As I said in the other thread, not a religion) because it conflicts with his religious beliefs. He is doing it as a national security procedure to protect the United States from what is believed to be an imminent attack from within the mass immigration of Muslims from that region. I am not sure how that thread explains why you don't think a president should promote religion, and why this appears to be an issue now. Cruz isn't the first (and hopefully wont be the last) president to be open about his religion.

Excuse me for assuming Trump had something to do with it, considering when you linked a thread explicitly started for discussing Trump's plan to ban Muslims. I read those posts when they were posted, and went back and read them now. I agree that separation of church as state is either an all or nothing thing. However, I don't think that the president holding a religion, and informing others of his religion, is necessarily the same as the state holding a religion. If Cruz, as president, were to pass executive orders making everyone go to church on Sunday morning, or make everyone read the bible every night, then it would be a problem. I'm not convinced that Cruz informing others of his religious background is similar at all to what the separation of church and state pertains to. Unless, you are suggesting that your ideal president has no religious background.
February 10, 201610 yr I honestly can't believe anyone actually thought a candidate said that. It would tantamount to Sanders or Clinton saying "I'm going to confiscate all guns" only the haters would believe for a second that they actually said something like that. The sad thing is that many will see the headline on Facebook and even on here and not read any further...but will believe he actually said it.
February 10, 201610 yr Cruz still promotes religion too much. The article may not be legit but deep down in I bet Cruz loves the idea. Cruz seems to me like a person who's actually not very religious but uses it for his own advancement. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how he comes across to me.

I am all for any religion as long as it doesn't advocate violence, but the separation between any religion and the state has to be absolute.
February 10, 201610 yr I hate these sites so much. I've fallen for it before. It's not satirical or entertaining if you write a fake but plausible news story. It's a cheap gimmick to get clicks. Just the worst kind of nonsense. You said it: this isn't satire, it's just making crap up.
February 10, 201610 yr All good in my book. Everyone makes mistakes occasionally. I recently fell for the "Chipotle is giving away a free burrito" Facebook scam a couple weeks ago. Felt like a big dunce when I told my buddies about it. You just can't take a chance on passing up a free burrito from Chipotle. There's always a chance it could be legit. Just can't take that chance.
