I'm missing a bunch still. Lots of work to do at Baxter Avenue Theaters over the next six weeks.

... but to this point, Mad Max is the best I saw this year.

Early odds have Spotlight at even money and The Revenant at 2/1.

Leo a guarantee at 1/7.

Sly the favorite for his "career" award.

That's 12 nominations for The Revenant.

14 Nominations:

All About Eve (1959) - Won 6 Oscars

Titanic (1997) - Won 11 Oscars

13 Nominations:

Gone With the Wind (1939) - Won 8 Oscars

From Here to Eternity (1953) - Won 8 Oscars

Shakespeare in Love (1998) - Won 7 Oscars

Forrest Gump (1994) - Won 6 Oscars

Chicago (2002) - Won 6 Oscars

Mary Poppins (1964) - Won 5 Oscars

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) - Won 5 Oscars

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) - Won 4 Oscars

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2009) - Won 3 Oscars

12 Nominations:

Reds (1981) - Won 3 Oscars

Johnny Belinda (1948) - Won 1 Oscar

Becket (1964) - Won 1 Oscar

The King's Speech (2010) - Won 4 Oscars

Lincoln (2012) - Won 2 Oscars

Actor in a leading role

Leonardo DiCaprio, “The Revenant”

Matt Damon, “The Martian”

Michael Fassbender, “Steve Jobs”

Bryan Cranston, “Trumbo”

Eddie Redmayne, “The Danish Girl”

The winner, the runner-up, and three other guys (and I'm a Cranston fan).

Would love to see Damon win, as I thought his performance was teriffic, but I think Leo has too much momentum to be defeated.

13 Nominations:

Shakespeare in Love (1998) - Won 7 Oscars

How in the hell did that ever happen? 13 nominations and 7 wins???

The Martian is the only one I saw. Almost watched Bridge of spies.

Agreed. I liked it but how it won over Saving Private Ryan I will never understand. I think it had to be some vote splitting between Ryan and The Thin Red Line.

I saw both Spotlight and Brooklyn. Both really good.

Will probably see Big Short in the very near future. I need to see The Martian.

Almost watched Bridge of spies.

Sounds like ""Sir Robin the - not - quite - so - brave - as - Sir Lancelot, who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor."

I'll say The Revenant wins Best Picture.

Leo wins Best Actor, although I could see Fassbender getting it.

Brie Larson for Best Actress

Stallone for Supporting Actor and Rooney Mara for Supporting Actress.

Crazy year at the Oscars. Lots of mediocre movies won Best Picture for a pretty long stretch there from the mid-1990s through the early 2000s. I don't know why that was.

I'm pretty sure that the 1998 awards show was the same night they gave the Honorary Oscar to Elia Kazan and a bunch of people didn't applaud for him because he'd named names in front of HUAC forty years earlier.

You are correct on all of it.

1995 - Braveheart (Apollo 13 & Sense and Sensibility)

1996 - The English Patient (Fargo, Shine & Jerry Maguire)

1997 - Titanic (Good Will Hunting & LA Confidential) GARBAGE

1998 - Shakespeare in Love (Saving Private Ryan & Life is Beautiful)

1999 - American Beauty (Cider House Rules & The Insider) right choice

2000 - Gladiator (Traffic and Erin Brockovich)

2001 - A Beautiful Mind (LOTR)

2002- Chicago (Gangs of New York, The Pianist, LOTR)

2003 - LOTR: The Return of the King (Lost in Translation, Mystic River, Seabiscuit)
