January 13, 201610 yr Author Click on the article. It has a breakdown of what rates of return make the most sense, if you invest most of the money.I'm going to bookmark it and refer back to it tomorrow when I really need it.
January 13, 201610 yr Isn't it true that if you take the annual payment option and something happens to you (you die), your beneficiaries are not entitled to the remainder of your winnings? To me, there is no good argument to not take the lump sum.
January 13, 201610 yr I feel you should compensate those that didn't get graced by your presence at Molly Malone's in Louisville. $2 million a piece sounds fair :lol2: I could agree to that.
January 13, 201610 yr You got it! I posted in the What Could It Buy thread that I'd help animal rescues so I can add both to my list. Along these same lines, I'd use a pretty significant chunk to invest in more wildlife preserves or "sanctuaries" in places like Africa where so much illegal poaching is done. So many of the world's amazing creatures are being killed off for absolutely no good reason. Was lucky enough to get to the zoo in September and see the Sumatran rhino before she was sent to a preserve in Africa. She's the last fertile female left in the whole world. If she doesn't breed, they're doomed for extinction. It was cool to see, but man it was sad at the same time.

If you die, it goes into your estate and the payments would continue to the estate, who could distribute them to your beneficiaries. If you die, your estate would also have the option of having the lotto pay out the cash value of the remaining payments so the estate could be settled and not have to wait until the annuity paid out after 30 years. The powerball is also paid in an annually increasing payment schedule. Year 1 annuity payment would not be 50M, it would be 22.5M before taxes. That amount increases annually and the last payment in Year 30 would be over 94M. https://www.usamega.com/powerball-jackpot-annuity.asp?state=KY&d= (Note, in that example, they are using 25% federal tax withholding, but your rate would be 39.6% so you'd owe some more federal tax than they are showing)
January 13, 201610 yr So last week the day before the drawing and the day of the drawing, the jackpot increase each day. Yesterday and today, nothing. What gives? Can't tell me there wasn't more wagering yesterday and today than there was last week.

Can't tell me there wasn't more wagering yesterday and today than there was last week.I thought about that too and this is the only thing I could come up with. Jackpot announced is an estimated amount. Maybe they were surprised at the growth in ticket sales last week and under-estimated. Then they upped their estimate basically daily. This week they started off with an estimate of 1.3 and then yesterday morning upped it to 1.5. Maybe they have done a better job of estimating this time around and haven't had to adjust it much.
January 14, 201610 yr I can see that. Now another question.... How many jackpot winners will there be tonight ? I think 5 different winners(individuals or groups). 5 winning tickets
