Prior post is exactly right. For example, Greenville High School participated in the first all A state tournament. Shortly thereafter, the 7 high schools in Muhlenberg County were merged into 2. As more of that kind of consolidation occurred, fewer small schools existed and larger schools then became part of the 125 schools who could participate in the all A (it now is 120).

 

I admire and respect the work that people have done and continue to do to allow the all A to exist. I am comfortable in allowing those people who devote so much time and effort to make it happen to decide who it should be run. I am just thankful they do it.

 

I'm with you on this. I wish they would look into setting a certain enrollment like they use to. Another thing is maybe looking at the regional teams and shift some. Some regions have as many as 10 teams where others just have 4-5

Quite frankly I think its pure crap. They have a legitimate complaint. my school lost to Lexington Catholic in the 95 All A, UHA in the 99 All A, and regularly has to content with Bishop Brossart in our own region . But hello, adversity is part of sports and part of life. You don't just stop playing when you don't like the rules of think others are being unfair. What kind of lesson does that teach your students? Whenever things feel unfair just quit? Also its not like public schools never use questionable tactics to obtain talent. Also many private schools are in the same boat as small public schools and struggle to field team every year, and for many of us the Class A is our only chance to make an impact. If you want to have an on going discussion about how to make the Class A better then I'm all for it. But don't take your ball and go home because you don't wanna play someone. That's the behavior of a 12 year old on the playground. Grow up.

All depends on how you quantify small school. Student population of 600 is small to some but to a school with student population of 120 for 12 grades, it's not so small. So does that very rule encourage recruiting to even the odds?

You've literally just defined relative. Thanks. And no it doesn't encourage recruiting. That's so ridiculous I almost didn't even respond.

Of the private, Catholic schools I'm aware of, no student is ever turned away because of lack of money. Every effort is made to work with the parents to provide that opportunity.

 

I'm sure it is not easy for a parent to say they need help, but thru resources like FACTS, efforts are made with great respect to the dignity of those asking for assistance. justsayin

 

 

The KHSAA limits scholarships to a percentage of tuition. ... I believe it's no more than 25%.... Brossart tuition is about $6000.... that means Brossart even with a scholarship is $4500 more than a public school. .... basically Brossart has a $4500 DISADVANTAGE

Well, then that explains the system and how it benefits "certain" schools. It makes a joke of " The All A Tournament" which at it's inception implied that it was a tournament for small schools and players to get the large school type of exposure and fan experience. The rules that regulate it are about as fair as inversion taxes and how they benefit the W-2 employee, not one bit. No wonder you have schools boycotting it, there are no hard and fast rules. And my school has actually won their region and participated at the state, so I'm not questioning because we haven't been successful, but there needs to be some real numbers to meet to qualify. It does give the truly small schools who meet a set number of students, even any private ones who may or may not be recruiting, a false impression that they are playing on a level playing field.

At university heights (I asked sparks this question last year) half of the student body receives financial aid.

 

This situation will be solved next year when the new rules for the all a apply. If you boycott one sport you boycott all.
