Report: Nets interested in Calipari as president and coach

Featured Replies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari is reported to be a target of the Brooklyn Nets after the team fired head coach Lionel Hollins on Sunday.

A report by Yahoo! Sports states that Nets CEO Brett Yormark remains an immense ally of Calipari since Calipari's late 1990s tenure as Nets president and coach.

According to Yahoo, Yormark has remained a proponent of making a lucrative offer to bring Calipari back to the Nets in a dual president and coaching role.

This article dives deeper than anything I've read before and if half of it is true he's had more talks than most on here would care to admit.

No clue if he leaves or not but he's certainly entertained the idea.

I can't see him going with the team he should/could have next season. Of course, some things are just impossible to say no to, regardless of circumstance.

I do think he's down to 2-3 more years max at Kentucky though. Just don't see him hanging around much longer.

Agreed. Plus I just don't see him going to the Nets unless he knows he can win with them right away, which he wouldn't be able to. It would take a team with a star to offer him to be the coach and some management control for him to leave. I still think he would have taken the Cavs job, if he knew for sure James was coming back. However not knowing that, and all his players returning that year basically forced his hand to stay.

My prediction is still he will end up in Cleveland if the Cavs fall short again this year.

I've long maintained that Calipari will leave Kentucky for an incredible job in the NBA, one that includes roster control and perhaps a partial ownership interest. With that said, Calipari should know that it takes a star player to win in the NBA, and the Nets don't have one. To compound that problem, the Nets don't even have a 1st round draft pick until 2019.

It won't be too much longer until Calipari is on an NBA sideline and/or calling the shots for an NBA franchise, but I think it'll be for a better organization.

This has become the ultimate self fulfilling prophecy.

Which is right in-line with the timeline he set out when he arrived in Lexington.

Repost of what I said in the college thread.

This is the absolute worst job in the NBA right now. They have basically zero draft picks for the next 2-3 years. I don't see him taking this one.

Reports are that Cal would leave for the NBA for 10 year, 120mil contract

Which he will never get.
