Size might matter somewhat in D1 college ball, but if you have the talent, college coaches will want you regardless. They dont need their point guard getting 10 boards a game. Thats why you have the big bodies down low

 

CIncinnati has normally had smaller point guards and it hasn't affected them too much. See Devan Downey and Steve Logan. Both are only 5'10, 5'11 (No i'm not sayin Hester is good as them, but just stating my opinion.) Hester probably won't go D1, but there is no doubt that the talent is there.

 

But I have to agree that TJ and DJ are the better point guards, but only because of size which allows them to finish in the lane. Hester is more of a dish first, shoot second type player which is great because it shows his unselfishness. But at this point, Duran is the most heavily recruited point guard in nky...period.

Not too sure about this but I know that Mississippi St has been recruiting him very hard because one of Holmes coaches has ties with the school because he played there. Right now Duran has been receiving the most letters from the big time schools. But I'm not sure if any have offered him yet for basketball.

First off Todd Jacobs isnt even a point guard and as for Mike being a dish first shoot second type point guard? He just happens to be a fine one that averages 17pts a game so I dont think that is too bad for someone who looks to pass first. The one thing I will add to the comparisons is this. You take Duran and replace him with Mike and I could guarantee you that Holmes would be at state next year making some big noise. And it doesnt have so much to do with talent because I know Duran has lots of that but it has to do with chemistry. And in that department wheter it be with Holmes or with the Tarheels in aau ball, there's always been a bit of a problem with Duran in terms of leadership.

I know Jefferson and Jacobs are physically stronger but I think Hester is a very good finisher for his size, he's not afraid to take it into the paint but I worry about him when he goes flying through the lane.

Hester has the Al Huff syndrome. It makes you wonder how far they could go if they only had a few more inches.

Hester isn't exactly an angel either. You've been sitting here bashing on Jefferson's leadership skills and his attitude, but from what I've seen and heard Hester's in the same boat. They're both very good players, but I'd rather have Duran, and I don't have a horse in this one...

Mike is a fantastic high school player. I would pay to watch him play anyday in high school. However, from having played 4 years of college ball, IMO being a great high school player does not mean offers of college scholarships. I hope that he gets a D-I offer but you should compare the recent players locally who got D-I rides and Mike, (ie Neltner, Brock, Doellman, Penick, the CCH kid that signed at Penn) All of those guys are 6'6" or better. The last D-I guard that I remember from 9th Region was the coaches son from NewCath who played at Marshall. Unfortunately, college coaches usually recruit the smaller guards last. They are just more plentiful. If you go into Cincinnati right now into the GLC , you will find guards with as much skill and bigger than Mike. He is IMO more along the lines of Jeff Vories who is also very good and signed to play with a lower division team. No shame in that. Mike could be a liability in college in a man to man defensive set. He did not guard the other teams best guards this past year. Schambach did. He is quick on the ball, however, D-I guards will post him up or take him into the lane. When Mike was on the floor with Slaughter from Shelby this year it was obvious who was the D-I player. I think he could make a wonderful point guard for a D-II or NAIA school. Even then, it will be no cake walk.

We both have our opinions. Thats fine, yours just happens to be wrong. Mike has had a problem with his emotions but that was with himself. When he was playing bad he got upset with himself. He never gets on teammates for mistakes. Mike comes to practice everyday and practices hard and doesnt see himself on a different plateu. Last year Mike as far as I can remember didnt have any problems like he did earlier in his career but as far as I can remember there were alot of posts on here about a player blowing a regional game because of his attitude. And like I said before Ive been around both these kids since 4th grade and my statement seems to be more true.

He did have one blowup against Holmes during SK's 2nd game of the season but after that I saw no evidence of being a "hot head".
