Did Carson Williams become the Mr. Basketball front runner tonight?

Featured Replies

Quentin Goodin was/is the front runner for Mr. Basketball when the season started.

IMO Carson Williams was right behind him.

Last night Carson Williams' Owen County team defeated Quentin Goodin's Taylor County team 75-63.

Does that victory for Owen County move Carson into the lead for Mr. Basketball? This game was played at the KOB and while it wasn't a winner's bracket game it was still a high profile and anticipated game. Is the award Carson's to lose now? If so, what can Goodin do to recapture the award? Are neither one of them in the lead? If not, then who?

If I had a vote it would be for Carson but I'd have voted for Carson before last night's results. I can admit that. Is there anyone who's mind has been changed because of last night's results?

Tyler Sharpe now has to be in the mix. Better Competition on a daily basis and still eats.

I definitely agree.

He had my vote (if I had one) from the beginning. I think he does a great job of making his team better 1st and takes on what ever role that may be. I understand he's a great kid with high academics.

I think Carson is my favorite. Not because his team won, but after watching both of them the past two days, I think he is the better high school player.

I enjoyed watching Sharpe, but I think he's a little behind these two.

I actually have a few opinions on this topic.

1. Carson Williams is the clear front runner for Mr. Basketball because he is putting up great numbers and doing it while winning as the statistical and physical leader of his team.

2. If Goodin is still in the running considering his teams poor play and lackluster record against decent competion, then Mason Faulkner should be ranked ahead of him IMO for all the same reasons I stated Carson is the front runner.

3. Tyler Sharp is a GREAT Player and a GREAT kid. He has lead his team to becoming one of the Top teams in the State and puts up pretty good numbers. But so are his teammates Bailey Rakes and Jared Farris. I don't know that he has to carry the load that Carson and Mason do night in and night out.

4. Is Mr. Basketball an award based off your play Senior year, or is it a culmination of all 4 years??? If it's based off just your Senior year then a kid named Dwayne Bowman AKA "Bam" has to be considered. He plays for Warren Central high school, and is averaging roughly 20pts and 12rebs a game. He is a 6'7" beast that does EVERYTHING including stroking it from deep. If they continue playing well, he has to be taken into consideration.

I haven't seen Faulkner play, but from the sound of things he definitely should is a candidate. I hope to see him next week, so I can get a gauge on how he compares with Williams and Goodin.

Agreed on all counts. I love me some Tyler Sharpe. When he gets going he is a lot of fun to watch.

Is it Dwayne Bowman or Darrell Bowman? I've been calling him Darrell.

I think you have to win your region's KABC award for player of the year to be considered for Mr. Basketball.

Whomever leads their team to the state tourney gets bonus points in this contest.

It is Darrell.... Brain Fart!

If you have to win your region player of the year then either Faulkner or Goodin will not be in the running. I think people will look at Goodin Career and national rankings and offers and give it to him.

They can award co-player of the year so they can both be eligible. I think last season the 7th Region had Jalen Perry, Raymond Spalding and Dwayne Sutton all win the award and the 9th Region had James Bolden and Drew McDonald.

Long way to go before this award is decided, all the players mentioned above would have to be in the running. Got my first look at Jacob King from Trinity against Bullitt East and if he continues to play at this level he's right in the mix.
