Did anybody attend the Cov Cath Tourney at Sports of all sorts? I was just wondering how some of the local teams looked? Does anybody know who won the tourney?

I watched Cov Cath roll over Fern Creek on Saturday.

I was there. I am not sure who won, but the finals were between Jeffersontown and Louisville Male, the only two teams to beat CovCath's Varsity over the weekend.

CovCath, with 6 players, also defeated Louisville Manual and Clark-Montinessori (spelling?) along with Fern Creek.

I saw Beechwood get handled by Silver Grove (who also had Luke Mace and Jared Shields of Dixie with them), but Beechwood beat CovCath's JV by 3.

CovCath's JV also lost to Jtown by 40+, and played Gallatin County close (I left at halftime, and I dont think Gallatin played their best players).

A lot of teams were shorthanded and in the end, the two teams with the deepest bench were in the finals. No word of who won though.

Am I correct that CCH played with only Schult, Jacobs, Grimes, Bondick, Rolle, and Shover?

Yes. Clay Lampl also showed up for the 2nd half of their final game against Jeffersontown.

Cov Cath put a real scare into J Town. They were up 10 in the 2nd half but the big bench and bodies of J Town seemed to wear CCH down in the end. Very promising game for CCH and Coach L

CovCath defeated Jtown earlier this summer in the Derek Smith Shootout. These two teams seem to meet a lot in the summer every year.

BTW, I forgot to mention earlier that Luke Mace, the junior big man from Dixie, has improved a lot in very little time. He has become a lot more aggressively on both offense and defense, from what I saw of him when he was playing with Silver Grove.

Why was Mace playing with Silver Grove? Has he transferred to Silver Grove? If not, then he shouldn't have been allowed to play with them.

The director of sports of all sorts was going around rounding up players for silver grove because they didn't have enough to play. At one point they had a player from Walton and tried to get hester to play with them, but he said that he had to play in the all star game that night.

Several teams (if not all) were missing top players due to camps, out-of-town tourneys, and football. The tourney may not be the best gauge for the coming season, but an opportunity to allow players to be on the court and get some exposure.

Silver Grove was asked at 5pm on Friday to fill in for another team who couldn't make it. Given they only have 35 boys in the school, it is difficult to round up 8 kids on that short of notice. Their coach told Listerman and Keener (who runs SOAS) they would bring as many kids as possible. Keener said he would have a couple others there to make sure they would have enough. SG ended up bringing 7 kids, but were missing 4 of their top 10 players (including 2 guys who started some last year). The lost to Louisville Manuel by 9pts, beat Beechwood by 26 and lost to Clark Montesorri by 12. Clark Mont. was very athletic and had 4 dunks. Corey Pelle had close to 30 pts each game. Nobody is transferring and Silver Grove would have preferred to play without Mace and Shields. Keener forced their hand.

Silver Grove got Mace and Shields to play because they needed players, simple as that. If you noticed they both play a lot and they don't even go to Silver Grove and by the sounds of it you act like they dont want these kids. Pelle, Shields, and Mace seemed to keep Silver Grove in the game against Manuel, Pelle and Shields took over the 2nd half against Beechwood and also kept them in the game against Clark Mont. It's not a big deal, Silver Grove ended up having more players than they thought they would have, but the Silver Grove coach wanted Shields and Mace to play anyway.

For the record, Keener doesn't run SOAS. Keener simply organizes a small number of the events that are held at SOAS. He does work there, but to say he runs SOAS is a bit of an overstatement.

CCH also did not invite the other top 2 teams in region.

My question is.... how do 4 of the top 10 not show up for this? Especially 2 guys for the Grove that started last year. SG is not that big... maybe 4 blocks total. I know there are vacations and such but was just wondering why those kids werent available. Maybe it had something to do with the call on Friday night at 5pm...hmmmmmm
