I think it's more a result of the church folk being more in tune with the times than anyone selling a soul. The local entertainment leaves much to the imagination, which I'm ok with, but some don't have huge imaginations.

And in 10 years we have neither, in fact we have lost more restaurants than have been gained. The only restaurant gained by the moist vote 10 years ago was Larosa's thats never very busy.

You're from NoKy originally, right? You do realize that Catholics are isolated to river towns and larger cities, right? Baptists dominate this state. That's why the silliness of dry counties persists, why people are OK with Kentuckians spending their hard-earned money to fund Indiana schools and roads at the casinos, rather than keeping that money in-state.

People need to stop thinking about wet votes in terms of how many new businesses it's going to bring in. Unless your town is on the tourist path, new businesses may not be relocating there, even if it is along an interstate. Folks need to think of it in terms of recapturing tax revenue that's already going across county lines. Simple as that. Slap on an extra tax on beer/booze sales if it makes you feel better. Regardless, people are going to drink. Why not put the bootleggers — who never ask for an ID to make sure you're of age — out of business?

The last numbers I saw, the tax collected that was going to stay in county netting against what it was costing the county to change all the laws, create the enforcement groups and planning were going to put the county in a deficit until 2023 or so. That was assuming a population increase that honestly we probably wont see.

Yes I do know this. I was just making a point against this idea that drinking is anti Christian. My cousin who is a priest wouldn't agree.

Even if this true which would be rare , that making alcohol a net negative , it still is a freedom issue.

I dont get the freedom issue you guys are posting. There have been multiple votes to make the county wet over the years, and until now those votes didnt pass. So tell me how its a freedom issue, if the voters of the county were given chance after chance to vote for it?

Whether it's bootleggers or a lecherous liquor store on the county line that jacks up prices to squeeze the dry county folks, what difference does it make.

 

And I have a hard time believing that Grant Co. is in such awful financial shape strictly because of the wet vote passing. I'm sure it has nothing to do with carpetbaggers from Boone/Kenton/Campbell counties moving in and putting stress on an infrastructure designed to deal with 15K fewer people, and Grant Co. being unwilling to raise the property taxes to pay for the services those folks are accustomed to.
