Feinstein on The Heisman Trophy

Featured Replies

He's totally correct. I wonder how many UK fans won't even bother to read the article because of who wrote it?

Here's one that read it, and totally agreed.

1. Never heard of this guy until now.

2. I agree the Heisman is for the most part a joke.

3. He comes off as a whine bag.

You've never heard of John Feinstein?

Not real sure how to answer this question.

Wasn't really a question. Just surprised someone hasn't heard of John Feinstein. I just assumed everyone had. We all know what the say about assuming though. My bad.

He's not really been relevant for years...takes a shot at Kentucky every once in a while and gets his on-line clicks up from time to time.

Has written a couple of books that I really enjoyed, Season on the Brink (About Indiana Basketball and Bob Knight) and a Good Walk Spoiled (Golf)

Both are great books. I think his shots at UK are very childish of him, but it's obviously just a bias he has. I have my biases, clearly, so I can't fault others for having theirs. As long as it doesn't keep someone from being objective, I'm ok with it.

I bet most people in KY do not know who John Feinstein is.

John is a "romantic" when it comes to college sports. He likes the purity of the Ivy League. He loves the Patriot League and actually wrote a good book about it. Used to call Navy football games on the radio.

HATES big-business college sports.

It's not just anti-UK. It's anti-NCAA.

I believe he also wrote a book called the Last Amateurs...a book about the Patriot League (Army, Navy, Lehigh, Lafayette, etc.) at least I believe that is what it was called. Also, maybe a book chronicling the Army-Navy game.

He is anti-ESPN.

SO am I, but they put the games out I want to watch for the most part.

Basically Feinstein is everything that everyone has accused him of being. But his article here is spot on in every way. What good is the Heisman trophy ceremony if guys like Keenan Reynolds aren't invited? Keenan Reynolds is a once in a lifetime player. Not a once in a lifetime talent, but a player. You don't have to give him the trophy, but just him being there was all that needed to happen. It needed to happen, but it didn't happen.

The book chronicling the Army-Navy game is called "A Civil War" I believe, I have read three of his books and am on a fourth, have to say I like his work. He is anti NCAA and big business college sports. I do completely agree with him on the kid from Navy, should have been invited.
