Yes I think they will be back in the mix next year. Played a lot of young kids that are growing up.

Why does everybody think you can pass again South warren we had the best pass defense in 4am this year also.do you not think Coach Smith can get Coach defense against the pass?

 

I don't see why you all always insist on taking it this way. I don't think anyone is implying that it is easy to pass on South, only that it is impossible to beat them solely on the ground. I imagine it is probably just as difficult to beat them only through the air. You need balance to compete with South. You need a passing game that will perhaps loosen up the running lanes, at least the threat of it.

 

South had, statistically, the third best passing defense in 4A. They had the best rushing defense by a country mile. They gave up 160 less yards on the ground than Clay County, despite playing four more games than them. And that's with a schedule that was against teams that were very dedicated to running the ball, so it wasn't for a lack of trying. Four of South Warren's opponents ranked in the top 10 in 4A for rushing average per game, Greenwood was rated second in 5A, Central Hardin was rated fourth in 6A, and North Hardin was rated 14th.

I'm just saying South very likely wouldn't have kept 9 in the box against Hopkinsville like they did against virtually every team they played. Competitive may have been a poor choice of words, I was really going for scoring twice on their starting defense.

The only point I'm really trying to make it that if you want to have a good chance to win vs South Warren then you need to have the ability to make pass plays as well as running plays. To be 1 dimensional will not work. I'm not putting anybody down or anything, jeeezzz. The bolded part is what I'm getting at. At least Central gave the appearance of being able to pass and had more success running the ball vs. not having that ability.

If 4A teams can't at least threaten to pass the ball and keep South's defense honest, I don't see them losing.

 

I haven't seen their schedule yet, but if it stays the same the only 2 4A teams that "might" fit that category are Franklin-Simpson if they use some of the spread that FSFan was speaking about and if they don't then they won't beat South. The other is Hopkinsville. I know many on here don't think much of them, but at least they pass the ball and although I don't think they would have beaten South in the playoffs this year, I do think it would have been a competitive game and they might have scored twice.

The FS / SW game looking at the stats from Khsaa. FS threw the ball 17 times with only 5 completions for 103. They ran the ball 23 times with little to show as well. One back had 41 yards. That looks like a pretty good balance to me. FS only had one guy to catch all five passes. That won't work either. You can't just look at one guy and if he isn't open run. Good defenses will figure that out real quick. It may have also been that the QB was pressured, but if you go to the spread and have no protection, it won't do any good, and you have to have people to catch it. Great defense like SW are just hard to move the ball on.

Make your case then that Shelby Co is #2, since I assume that is what you dislike so much. As for Scott being #2, it took a hail mary for JC to beat them with no time on the clock. Scott won that game for 47min and 59sec. JC was very lucky to come away with that win. Scott beat a very good Ashland team as well. So, please state your case why this list is not close

Johnson central will be there again they have a lot of talent coming back .SW defense will be good not great but offense may be great all skill back will miss a few WR but they have kids coming that will fit the bill look for Hayes ,Namvong and Litten to have huge years also maybe a couple of transfers !franklon Simpson will be mush improved also and always watch out for john Hardin .hoptown will win their district but get beat in regionals .it looks like as much as things change they stay the same .i look for SW VS JC again in championship but much closer game this time .
