December 8, 201510 yr Author We'll disagree on this one. Why would one gun's bullets be OK for a criminal but another not be ? Defies logic. How many criminals think they're going to get caught? They don't. If they did consider that they might be caught jail by itself would stop 90% of them. Your weapons had very little real impact on people committing crimes IMO. You are right Clyde, we are going to have to disagree on this one. I think deep down in every criminal knows there is a chance he/she may get caught. Additionally, if they are committing violent crimes they know they may get injured or killed. Moving forward it is all really the psychology of displacement. Criminals are going to commit crimes, but the criminals have lots of choices where they commit those crimes and part of our job was to make sure they committed them somewhere else than Florence/Boone County. Working on the road for 20 years I have seen a lot of scared men that would terrify most of you. I am talking about local thugs, hard hitters from across the river, con men from New York to Florida traveling through, monstrous construction workers, outlaw biker enforcers, drug dealers, bank robbers, gang members, neo-nazis, anti-government extremists, violent felons, ex-cons, murderers, etc. and they all have one thing in common. They are ALL scared to death of the Police and they ALL run like little female dogs when the police come for them. The moral of the story is, if you get scared, I can easily intimidate you, and they all get scared. [video=youtube;GazE8PAL-DE]
December 8, 201510 yr When the new carry concealed law first came about we (law enforcement) were certainly skeptical but some of our own officers were doing the carry conceal class training and in short everyone in that room knew we were all on the same team. All I am saying is in my world (and the guys and gals I worked with) it wasn't a problem. It was an extra consideration on a crime in progress but beyond that it was a good thing. Frankly, I wish more and more people would carry concealed, it would make policing much easier and much safer. Thanks for the input from a LE perspective. Do you care to elaborate on the last sentence I placed in "bold." How do civilians who carry concealed make policing easier and safer? It doesn't have to be a treatise in response but I would like to know what you are thinking here.

In an attempt to be funny here, imagine a cop being on his/her own in a dangerous situation, scary, now imagine the same situation but the cop has a mall cop with him. The mall cop may not be armed (sorta counterintuitive to the analogy but stay with me) but I know if it goes down the mall cop is on my side and he/she is getting involved. Now, the mall cop getting involved is not ideal in many ways but it is better than the alternative of no help at all. So coming full circle, having honest and upstanding citizens with concealed weapons isn't ideal but it better than the alternative of no help at all.

December 8, 201510 yr Sounds like you are having a reading comprehension problem today Clyde. Not at all. You said they all are scared when the police come for them.
December 8, 201510 yr Here's a history of crimes in Florence KY. Notice no trend one way or the other. Crime in Florence, Kentucky (KY): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers, crime map
December 8, 201510 yr Author Not at all. You said they all are scared when the police come for them. They are, therefore intimidation works, and finally displacement works. You scare someone enough, even a really bad dude, and they stay away. ============================= Moving back to the thread topic again, this is exactly what the Sheriff is doing in his own way, he is making Boone County safer for all of us. Helmig for Sheriff!

Crime in Florence, Kentucky (KY): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers, crime map Maybe not in population but the city of Florence has grown so much the past 25 years, with that in mind I like what I see. I would like to see a better explained breakdown of these statistics.
December 9, 201510 yr Author Great job JA, and I am going to end the thread with this post: Earlier this year, Breitbart News posted a list of example of armed citizens using guns to defend their lives and the lives of others. The examples were drawn from events that occurred between November 30, 2014, and January 13, 2015. Nov. 30—A Washington state mother shot an alleged home invader to save her children. Dec. 8—A veteran confined to walker used a gun to stop a home invasion. Dec. 9—An Antioch, California, homeowner opened fire on two home invaders. Dec. 19—A 14-year-old shot and killed an intruder to save his grandparents. Dec. 20—A man used a handgun in self-defense when confronted by an armed robber outside an Ohio mall. He killed the would-be robber, ending the attack. Dec. 26—A Good Samaritan witnessed a domestic attack, pulled a pistol, and held the man at gunpoint until police arrived. Dec. 27—A home invader put a gun to a woman’s neck in Memphis. The invader was shot and killed by the homeowner. Dec. 28—A Bucks County, Pennsylvania, resident shot an intruder who broke through the glass door of her apartment. Dec. 29—A home invader was shot and killed after a pregnant woman helped fight him off. Dec. 30—A pastor shot a man who attacked him inside a church. Dec. 30—A Texas fireworks stand owner used a gun to shoot and stop armed robbers. Jan. 9—Four armed robbers stormed a women’s gun store in Shawnee, Kansas, and the co-owner’s life was spared when her husband intervened by opening fire on the suspects. Jan. 10—A California homeowner survived an initial attack by a home invader, retrieved a gun, and held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived. Jan. 11—A man put a gun to a Papa John’s Pizza delivery woman’s head; she pulled her own gun and shot him in the face. Jan. 12—An armed robber in a Milwaukee barber shop was shot and killed by a patron with a concealed carry license and a handgun. Jan. 13—An armed Taco Bell robber ordered a would-be victim to drop his pants, but the victim pulled his gun instead and shot the robber dead. These real accounts of armed citizens using guns defensively are literally a fraction of the similar stories that could be listed. So it stands to reason that the war on the Second Amendment is a war on the ability of such citizens to continue to defend their lives and the lives of others. 2nd Amendment in Action: Armed Driver Stops Attempted Mass Shooting - Breitbart
