That would be the problem with Vegas determining the playoff teams, they would have a conflict of interest.

Just because someone wins their conference doesn't mean they are the best team from that conference. The committee should be free to choose the 8 best teams which is really the point of this thread.

That's true, however if that team doesn't win its conference then its their own fault if they end up not getting an at large. It is simple it still makes the season matter like people want. If you win your games you will win your conference and be in no questions asked then. If you do slip up and that cost you the conference that is your own fault but you could still overcome that if your overall resume was good enough to be one of the three at larges.

 

This still makes the season matter like people want, it takes peoples opinions out of it besides the three at large and it makes it very clear on what teams need to do to KNOW without a doubt what they have to do to get in. If you win the conference you don't have to worry about other teams, or peoples opinions.

Also an idea to save all the bowl games if you have 8 teams, is you play the first round and the 4 losers get placed in designated bowl games as sort of a consolation and then continue to use bowl games as semi finals. It wouldn't be drastically different than what we have now. The bowl games, even the big ones are simply extra cash to the programs, and a consolation prize. I don't even know if this is an issue to anyone on here, but I know there are people around the country that are just absolutely obsessed with bowl games.

The problem with that logic is you could have the 5 conference winners and then two or three other teams from those same conferences that were better (or at least still ranked in the top 8) and the result is only teams from super conferences end up making it.

My plan is 5 conference winners, highest ranked non power 5, and then 2 at larges. But if the plan is to truly get the best 8 teams, does a non power 5 school deserve a chance no matter what?

G, isn't the selection Committee basically the "Supreme Court" you are talking about?

8 of the 12 are not currently tied to any school and the other 4 are currently employees of a school as an AD.

 

4 are former coaches (Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Notre Dame/Stanford/Washington)

1 is a former football reporter (USA Today)

1 is a former Commissioner (Big East)

1 is a former NCAA VP

2 were in past leadership positions (Stanford and US Military Academy)

4 are current AD's (Arkansas, Clemson, Wisconsin and Texas Tech)

All we have to do is make it the top eight, those same five conference winners probably make it 4 out of every 5 years under that system.

I'd be fine with that, but odds are a non power 5 will hardly ever make it which would frustrate some people. That's the only reason I had 1 non power 5 in my solution, but I would be just fine not having them in there. I want the 8 best teams, that's all I really care about.
