Xavier 90 Dayton 61

Featured Replies

Final from the championship game of the Advocare Invitational.

Someone could have just saved me a lot of trouble and told me the score three hours ago then pummeled me in the head with a ball-peen hammer. I'd have enjoyed it more.

Xavier is very good, no doubt about it, but the Flyers have a LONG way to go.

Strong couple of days in Orlando for X.

As I said in another thread, best I've seen a Xavier team look since March of 2008.

Even with the minor additions in size and athleticism over last season, Dayton still looked massively undersized and painfully slow compared to the squad X trotted out there. Just not comparable this season. Flyers really missed Dyshawn Pierre today in that respect.

The two best teams that Xavier has faced, Dayton and at Michigan, were both hammered in the paint and on the glass. Will be interesting to see that particular phase of their game with UC. Xavier has grown men in the paint, and to date, that has been the difference in their season.

Archie made a great point about this gives him lots of film to show his "weak and young bigs" on what their game is supposed to look like.

In addition to that stuff, he'll be spending plenty of time with redshirt freshman center Steve McIlvene, who lost his man CONSTANTLY in the paint. Lots of easy buckets in the lane for X in that second half and Big Steve was responsible for a great many of them.

With UD so undersized last year, we also saw Kendall Pollard guard a lot of men bigger than him at the five. Now that he's shifted out to the wing, we're finding out he's not prepared to play defense out there. He was abused by Iowa's forwards in the quarterfinal and absolutely shredded multiple times today.

".....massively undersized...." ------- good oxymoron.

Xavier has been really impressive early in the season. I still believe Dayton has a good team, Xavier was just highly underrated by the pollsters.

With wins over Michigan, Alabama and USC I expect X to be in the top 2 tomorrow when the playoff committee releases their rankings... :D

Caught some of this one, just did not post on it. Was hoping Dayton could take it, but they were out matched big time in this one.
