And with all do respect to you Sir and the team you follow/ homer to.. Are you not one of the ones that has been critical against Lex Cath all season? Every game, you always pick them to loose, get beat down or even placed a running clock on them? How is that going for you and your homer team?

 

I've never said a bad word about Lexington Catholic. Not even one.

 

I predicted them to lose to Boyle County because I thought they would. I'm predicting them to lose to Belfry because I think they will.

Belfry is really good here

Bentley- Plays pretty much the entire game at TE and DT

 

Catron- HB and Safety pretty much the entire game, but at HB he only averages maybe 7 or 8 carries per game

 

Woolum- SE and CB, Belfry rotates about 3 different SE's and sometimes goes double tight.. he plays from 75% of the snaps on Defense as Belfry rotates Corners.

 

I would not expect the wear down factor to play any role... Woolum will not be effected due to how Belfry rotates him, Catron is probably the most physically fit player for either team and doesn't get a lot of fatigue from Offense... Bentley is the only guy who generally is playing both ways and having to grind 90% of the game.

TJ Dotson is another .5, he splits time with Woolum at SE and plays full time DE

I would count Derek Wellman another .25 or .5 as he plays LB full time and plays part time at FB but Fletcher gets most of those reps.

Should I come on here and say Belfry should practice with horses or cheetahs on their scout team to simulate LexCath's speed? NO cause that is degrading the players. Lets stay with the facts, Belfry is a beast, Belfry is big, Belfry has a winning tradition, LexCath has a winning tradition, LexCath is fast and LexCath has gone through a gauntlet of a schedule to get where they are this season and season of past.

At the end of the day it boils down to the fact 3A was probably the toughest class pound for pound and the deepest class in the State. To get to this game, in the fashion both teams got here, is a huge accomplishment. Every computer considers these two of the Top 15 teams in the State Regardless of Class and every computer thinks this will be a close game.

 

For each box one team checks, the other team checks a box of their own. Going to be a great game.

Lexington Catholic's defensive linemen and linebackers should run into brick walls all week in practice. That's the only way to simulate what they're about to face.

Who said LexCath doesn't have a running game right? 1,600 17 TD sounds legit to me. I know folks that was last season and this season's numbers are not nearly as close as last, but you all have to take in account that Jones had a broken hand and was playing with a cast from week 0-6. In fact this season, they have more as a, team rushing yrs and TD than last.

The running game is what concerns me most. Jones and Thompson are both quick as mouse traps and when they spread out your defense and get loose in space, they can scoot and both of them are a TD waiting to happen on every touch.

 

Just over 2100 yds rushing so far as a team and that is not too shabby when you combine it with about 3000 passing yards. That is a lot of offense and shows you the balance this team has.

The #1 priority, and key for this game for Belfry, will be to try and keep Jones and Thompson from beating you on the ground. With a balanced team like this, you aren't going to stop everything. Coach Haywood and staff will try to take something away, and I feel pretty confident they will try to take away the running game and force Lexington Catholic to beat them through the air.

I like this kinda talk and analysis of a game. I dislike soooo much the lame quotes that other post on here. Just the facts and thank you for pointing out the facts. Should be an awesome game. The X's and O's/ chess match should be fun to watch and keep track on while watching this game.

I also want to also dispel some misconceptions about Belfry I have seen hanging around.

 

Some people are trying to play this game off as Speed vs. Size.... and I do think it is easy and somewhat fair to make that comparison from a surface level, but at the same time I would strongly caution people.

 

For as big as Belfry is across the board, those suckers can move!

 

I watched the LexCath vs. Garrard County game and was actually very surprised how huge Garrard was. The Golden Lions might be the only team in 3A that can match Belfry's size. With that said, it was also stunning to see the lack of team speed and just general fundamentals from Garrard in comparison to Belfry. It really made me appreciate the Pirate staff to be honest to compare how Belfry's line comes off the ball and carries blocks to the second level, and how "quick and explosive" Belfry's big boys on the D-Line play.

 

If this were a track meet or a cross country meet LexCath would win going away, but I think some people are going to be surprised how fast and athletic Belfry really is despite their massive size.

 

1) You are right that Garrard was big... And they run, but that is really where the similarities with Belfry end. The two teams run very different systems. Also, Garrard was playing a lot of guys both ways in those LexCath games... I think some of lack of fundamentals and team speed that you saw could have been a combination of different schemes and general fatigue. That team really was worn down by a season full of injuries, off-the-field adversity, etc. That said...

 

2) Belfry is a different animal, altogether. I have always said that Belfry's style of play makes them play faster than they are. Add that to the fact that this is probably Belfry's fastest team I have seen, and it is a difficult deal to defend.

 

3) LexCath's running game has improved tremendously. I think having Thompson at QB has added a whole new dimension to their offense. They are playing with more urgency since he has been in.

I hope Belfry can have about 3 or 4 of those long 7 minute drives each half and leave LexCath about 2 minutes per half to run their offense.
