November 21, 201510 yr I don’t know how up you are on your Louisiana-Monroe news, but apparently, the Warhawks fired head coach Todd Berry on Saturday following a 59-21 loss to Arkansas State. The search is on for a new head coach and today, The News Star’s Adam Hunsucker listed Shannon Dawson as a potential candidate. Dawson is a Louisiana native and coached at Southeastern Louisiana at the beginning of his career, so the move wouldn’t be totally off base; however, as even Hunscuker notes, it’s not like Dawson has a lot to brag about after this season, pointing out that UK’s currently 109th in the FBS in scoring. Ouch, baby. Also problematic: money. Berry made $200,000 less than Dawson currently makes at Kentucky. The potential long-term job security of Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops could be a factor here, but so could money. It’s very doubtful ULM could approach the kind of pay day Dawson is already receiving at Kentucky. The best strategy ULM could take here is to sell the opportunity to be a head coach and the chance to get out of a situation that could go south at in Lexington. Of course it’s also fair to point out the ‘Cat’s offensive struggles under Dawson are part of the reason for their struggles. Right now, could Dawson “taking the leap” to his first head coaching job be a win-win for both parties? November 21, 201510 yr Hopefully. Coach Stoops has not had a good Offensive Coordinator in his three years.
November 21, 201510 yr So ULM doesn't watch football, got it. I'll call Bryson Warner now, we can have his family's company trucks in Lexington before 3 to help out with the move!
November 21, 201510 yr I'll call Bryson Warner now' date=' we can have his family's company trucks in Lexington before 3 to help out with the move![/quote'] Haha nice.
November 21, 201510 yr If Dawson leaves, no way Stoops can survive past next year. Having 3 coordinators in 4 years can kill your program
November 22, 201510 yr Stoops must do something with the coaching staff. Either Dawson or Elliott must go, mainly Dawson.
November 22, 201510 yr Dawson is a good guy but was put in a tough spot with never calling plays. Like a few OSU coaches I see him being asked to "pursue other opportunities."
November 22, 201510 yr That's what I would do ask my players to learn their third offense in three years.
November 25, 201510 yr That's what I would do ask my players to learn their third offense in three years. The offense under Dawson and Brown wouldn't have had many major differences. Maybe a few things here and there, but it's all in the same family.
