Xavier 78 Missouri 66

Xavier led by 1 at the half but dominated the 2nd half. Jalen Reynolds battles foul trouble and gives them nothing. Myles, Macura, Farr, and Bluiett carry Xavier without their big man engaged. Solid win over a very young Missouri team. I like their young guard KJ Walton, smooth player and will be good as he develops.

Xavier plays Michigan in the Gavitt Tip Off Classic (Big Ten / Big East) in Ann Arbor at 9:00 on Friday night. Should be a good test before next week and a likely match-up next Friday with Wichita State in Orlando if all goes according to plan.

2nd half was about what I expected. Mizzou has some young talent, but the roster still has some holes as Anderson gets things rebuilt. Playing through Reynolds being a non factor was more important for this group than anything else tonight. Nice W...

Really hoping to sit on my backside next Friday and watch X/Witchita and Dayton/Notre Dame in the Orlando semifinals if everything goes as I hope.

Still worried about X long term at the point guard spot. While I do love what Sumner can do, I don't think he is a guy that is comfortable running a team. If he gets more comfortable with it, they should be OK but he has a ways to go there. They have everything else they need for a solid season, but PG issues can be a killer...

Xavier(2-0) was able to give a young Missouri(2-1) team their first taste of defeat tonight. It's always good to see X. post a win over any team from THE dangerous S.E.C.

Leading the winners with 18 points was,Trevon Bluiett(Indianapolis, Ind.) He got help from James Farr(Evanston, IL) 15 points. Also hitting double digits for the winners were,Edmond Sumner(Detroit, Mich)12 points and Myles Davis(Plainefield, New Jersey) 10 points.

The young Tigers received a team high from,13 from Cullen VanLeer(Pacific, MO) The Freshman came of the bench and played a good game on the offensive side of things.

Caught parts of this one, while watching the Buckeyes game.

The beauty of technology. While at the NKU game, my wife pulled up DirecTV on her phone and watched the second half of this one at the same time. Solid win for the Muskies.

I'll be at the Cintas Monday night to see them annihilate the Norse. Anyone else going to be in attendance?

So exactly how does that work? I have the DirecTV app on my phone, but have never tried watching a live event on it. I usually just use it to program my DVR. Do you need some sort of adapter or something?

As far as I know, you don't need anything but your phone and the app. There should be a "watch live" or some option similar to that, that allows you to scroll through the channels and watch whatever it is you're wanting to watch.

It really came in handy last year when both UK and Xavier would play at the same time. She'd pull one up on the Ipad or Mac, and have the other on the TV.

You can also just go to espn3.com on your phone and log in with your DirecTV info and it'll allow you to watch whatever games are available there.

Thanks. I'll have to try it from work sometime.

Very good point. To be more specific, I'm not worried about the one (or the back-court in general) on the offensive end, but hyper-concerned about the one (and the back-court in general) on the other end. They are having a hard time cutting off penetration, and they haven't even seen the STUD PG's they'll face on their schedule. In their league they'll face Arch (LOVE him), Tyler Lewis, and maybe the best point in America, Kris Dunn. Plus you mix in Michigan's back-court, Wichita State's (best back-court in America), and Troy Caupain...it all adds up to potential issues. Especially given their issue with Jalen and his occasional foul trouble, penetration really could undo a lot of good for this team. Sumner is struggling to guard little and quick PG's (being 6'6" is a double edged sword), Myles can't guard me, JP couldn't hold me to 20, and Remy, while a solid defender, is more tough and physical than quick and agile. It is a real issue for Chris and the staff, especially against the depth of their schedule.

Lots of 1-3-1???

Yeah, but as we saw with DePaul on the road last year, if your 4 or 5 are perimeter threats, you're toast. Plus, I think the 1-3-1 only works well for them when JP is up top, and even then, rebounding out of that can be challenging.

Defensive end is going to be a challenge all year.
