November 18, 201510 yr The challenge I see for any team that allows penetration THIS YEAR is greater risk of foul trouble on the "bigs." With contact being called much tighter this year bigs are going to be at high risk of foul trouble if their perimeter counterparts get beat. Better get O'Mara ready to play.
November 18, 201510 yr Author Isn't that the case every year with them? Under Chris, yes, it has been. He recruits a certain style of player, and traditionally, they don't defend. He likes length and the ability to shoot. Sean, on the other hand, had teams that defended their tails off. In 2009, Sean's last team, they finished as the 12th best defensive team in America. 2010, Chris' first year, they dropped all the way to 53rd. 2011 was 52nd. 2012 was 53rd. 2013 was 60th. 2014 was 92nd. 2015 was 57th. Chris has added a board on the wall in the locker-room that will be updated daily with their defensive efficiency ranking this year. All of that said, Chris as a player wanted to make shots, dunk on you, and tell you about it....see: JP Macura. He recruits long scorers. Mick recruits tough-minded, defensive, in-your-face dudes that struggle to score. It is why things are what they are for both programs.
November 18, 201510 yr Won't ever be the case. So Jalen and another big get in foul trouble. Who's next?
November 18, 201510 yr Author So Jalen and another big get in foul trouble. Who's next? You mean like last night when both Jalen and James had 4 fouls at the 11:32 mark? Last night it was Makinde London, my hunch is it will be Kaiser Gates when all is said and done.
November 18, 201510 yr You mean like last night when both Jalen and James had 4 fouls at the 11:32 mark? Last night it was Makinde London, my hunch is it will be Kaiser Gates when all is said and done. Gotcha. Had to check the roster. Didn't know Makinde was that big. My point is the same. Better have some depth at the big if your guards get beat. Sucks for O'Mara.
November 18, 201510 yr Author Sucks for O'Mara. By the way, that listed height for O'Mara at 6'10" is as erroneous as any roster height I've ever seen, and that is saying a lot. I'd put him a lot closer to 6'7", grounded, and with no face up game. He is an offensive tackle playing hoops. Nice kid, but no way is he ever a rotation guy. Next year you'll have Gaston (sitting this year), plus sophomores Gates and London, plus Ekiyor who arrives in January. Maybe, and I mean maybe, O'Mara is a rotation guy after Gaston leaves.
