Pretty sure FS beat Hoptown in OT last year. Really good win for them.

Right. Game was tied at 7, 14, and 21. Both teams had big goal line stands and big drives to answer scores.

This was a good one. Hard loss for Hopkinsville but they had a good season. FS a class team.

A little surprised by the outcome. I thought the Hoptown defense would do a better job of slowing down the FS running game. Congrats to FS.

I thought FS could run on Hoptown but I thought it would be literally grind it out 3-6 yard gains. Brady had two 30+ yard carries and a 56 yd KOR, Hall went over 20 Yds 2-3 times, and the freshman fullback went for over 30 on a late possession.

 

One thing I have noticed and I am curious about this. It seems there are lots of "block in the back" penalties at every level. Many times a replay will show the flag comes out with minimal contact and little or no impact. Sometimes it's just incidental contact not a "block".

Am I too "old school" when a "clipping penalty" was called only after whiplash?

I know you see them every week. FS didn't have much luck with their run game the last time they played SW, how have they improved to make it happen now? Has the O line improved that much or has the backs more comfortable? Both?

Does FS have a chance to beat SW?

Blocking technique seems cleaner. More confidence in who to block at the snap. If you're wondering who to block at the snap you're probably going to whiff. Better to block the wrong guy with authority than no one. The entire team is confident in the process. Get the five yard gain, the four yard gain, move the chains, do it again.

 

Against this SW defense it may not matter. it's one of the best defenses I recall. I would not know where to rate it but it will be on the list in the future.

 

To answer JohnHardin23's question: Of course FS has a chance. South Warren is the heavy heavy favorite of course, but it's a high school football game between two capable competitive teams playing with a funny shaped ball that can bounce in crazy directions.

Despite all the injuries Franklin Simpson moves on. IMO...Coach Preston is one of the more undervalued coaches in the state. He's doing a good job of rebuilding FS.
