Boyle's schedule wasn't nearly as weak as people make it out to be. Opening up against Central Hardin. Playing Danville. Bell County. I don't ever recall Boyle playing Trinity or St. X.

As I stated in the prediction thread, I wanted to see Boyle win this game, but their easy schedule would catch up with them. Central doesn't mind going 5-5 or 4-6 playing all comers, anywhere, anytime. Their focus is the post season.

 

Football in Ky is better when Boyle is really good. If Boyle ever wants to return to power status, they need to call some traditional powers like they used to. Play tough games and get better. Give a call out to Highlands, Trinity, St X, Bowling Green, and some of the other big schools that are better than anything you'll see in the post season. Heck, call Scott Co and some big Lexington schools like Bryan Station. My opinion is they need to quit wasting Friday's playing half that schedule. I'll give a pass this year on Bell since that looks like a bowl game and they used to field a decent team every so often. But Bell isn't a game that's going to help you anymore either.

 

On paper at the beginning of the season the schedule was considered a top notch schedule. Boyle County lost to LexCath and Central. Let's not act like they lost to teams that weren't as good as or better than them.

I have no issue with Boyle's schedule

 

It's not really their fault that Anderson County and Collins weren't wuite as good as expected.

 

For 90% of the state that schedule would be more difficult than what most teams play

With a healthy Josiah, Boyle would not have lost to LC at home. but that is football and you play sometime when you are not 100 %. Central is really tough at home. Had that game had been at Boyle the score could have been reversed.I feel that Central will beat LC. Two reasons, I think they are a little better and second there is a definite home field advantage for Central. On the subject of this team having better talent than those early state champions, not even close. Those teams with Jeff Duggins at QB and all that supporting cast that I am not naming in fear of leaving someone out were much better. Duggins went 45 and 0 as starting QB. He had a pro mentality. Nothing bothered him. I don't like to compare, but this needed to be said.

One thing I do think Boyle will have to improve to compete with Central and Belfry in this new classification is depth.

 

Boyle isn't an especially deep team and has a lot of guys going both ways. Central usually has zero playing each way and Belfry may have two or three at most and usually the two or three who do play are rotated frequently to stay fresh.

 

It just seemed Boyle didn't have the gas left in the tank down the stretch when they needed to pull deep and find the plays and drives to win the game.

 

With the talent the Boyle feeder system is supposedly churning out though this may be a non-issue in the near future.

Boyle was 6-2 vs maxpreps top 5000 teams

Central was 4-2

This Boyle team didnt have near the talent of the 2000 Boyle team. I would give them a healthy Josiah and even add Rees Macshera to the team and 2000 squad would win by 40. This team wasnt all that talented except Josiah, Cox, Swanner and Roney. Also Boyle's line was the weakest link this year, seemed like a lot of times when they was playing good teams, he was running for his life when back to pass, he didnt get much protection from his line which lead to him getting injured.
