Getslow
Had $600 million buried in a field... and lived like a king when he was alive. Just looked it up. At the height of his power, Forbes estimated his net worth to be in excess of $3 billion. In 1989, the Medellin cartel controlled 80 percent of all the cocaine distribution on the planet... As a reference point, in 1989, Forbes estimates that there were only about 200 people in the world with a personal wealth over $1 billion. That's some pretty elite company. kypride
I would have covered it back up and went along with life. Don't mess with drug cartels. The Escobars have said they lost and forgot about a lot of where they hid money.
75center
Was that on here that someone recently posted the article how his cartel generated 21 billion a year and they lost 10 percent of it to various reasons such as rats gnawing on it? The numbers are staggering.

The numbers are staggering. I didn't see the article posted here so I looked it up. Pablo Escobar and rubber bands - Business Insider "At the peak of his power, infamous Medellín cartel boss Pablo Escobar brought in an estimated $420 million a week in revenue, easily making him one of the wealthiest drug lords in history. Pablo was earning so much that each year we would write off 10% of the money because the rats would eat it in storage or it would be damaged by water or lost," Escobar wrote." Maybe they planted some of the cash hoping it would grow more.
mexitucky
Are we sure there wasn't $700 million buried there? W/ it being Columbia, have they changed their currency since then to where this is "$600,000,000," but really it is just Confederate currency? Getslow
W/ it being Columbia, have they changed their currency since then to where this is "$600,000,000," but really it is just Confederate currency? Given that they ran about 85-90 percent of the cocaine that came to the U.S. and were essentially at war with the Columbian government for almost a decade, I wouldn't be surprised if the cartel dealt almost exclusively in American money. littleluck55
The article I posted also stated the Cartel spent $2500 a month in rubber bands to hold the money stacks.
Jumper_Dad
I wonder how many Colombian Farmers watched Narcos on Netflix and started digging around on their farms. This story is almost a scene right out of the series.
