As I have told my wife many times, I couldn't care less what they do for my funeral. I won't know a thing about it and it doesn't matter if they stuff me in a Hefty bag and throw me in the Tug River. LOL

 

The funeral is for the ones left behind so they can do whatever makes them comfortable or helps them feel better.

The three songs I want played and sung at my funeral are:

 

1. "And Can It Be?" by Charles Wesley, all 5 verses please. A magnificent, hope-filled, joy-filled hymn about the amazing love of God for us as displayed in the incarnation and atonement of Christ and experienced by a repentant sinner.

 

2. "Arise, My Soul, Arise," a lesser known hymn also by Charles Wesley. It marvelously lays out the ground or basis of our hope in Christ. This, too, is a song filled with hope. It actually speaks of Christ's ongoing intercession. I especially like the 3rd verse, "Five bleeding wounds..."

 

Arise, my soul, arise; shake off thy guilty fears;

The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears:

Before the throne my surety stands,

Before the throne my surety stands,

My name is written on His hands.

 

He ever lives above, for me to intercede;

3. "Amazing Grace" because it is widely recognized in our culture and is a "comfort" song for a wide cross-section of people that ably carries the message of God's grace.
