Manual's Coach Lucas to step down after season

Featured Replies

Glaser is a great coach, as is Redman, but rather than hire either one of them why don't they search for the next Glaser or Redman. Look for that local person that fits into that mold of winner at schools that don't traditionally win. Male hired Wolfe, who won at Waggener and look where they are. In my opinion Manual should do the same.

If you look @ the track record of Coach Lucas, he takes over a program, stays for a while, then heads onto a new program. Its not a shock to me that he is doing this, its now who is going to take him on next. He states in the article that he wants to still coach, so he will be watching the open jobs both in Kentucky & across the river I would say. Distance is nothing for him, you have to remember 10 years ago he was hired by Bryan Station all the way from Colorado.

He likes to travel :D

My only problem ever with coach Glaser was his complete animosity for T. He was never humble in defeat, and always pompous in victory. Thankfully his defeats by T far outnumbered his victories. That said, I think he is a fabulous football coach and had X not been so blind as to force him out when they did he would have won the state title in '13, no doubt IMO. If he took the Manual job and thus channeled a large amount of his venom toward X (of course saving some for T), count me as one T fan that would LOVE it.

I would love to see Glaser COACH at manual. But I don't know if he could give up one of the best teaching jobs in the state to do it.

Also, as much as he may want to stick it to the admin, gotta think he still has a big heart for the young men at X, and would be very hard to coach against them.

Don't know him personally, but from what I've heard from some of my X friends that played for him, I really don't see him taking it.

It was such a sad sad day when he left Poplar Level ! (As Coach)

The only person in Montgomery County that is wanting Coach Lucas is the Freshman coach at Montgomery County. He is also going around throwing out his support for other people who may or may not apply for the job. If he wants to stay on staff, for his sake I hope the other coaches who do apply don't catch wind of this. Good luck to all.

Oh, by the way, I do think Coach Lucas is a great coach, and would make a good coach for anyone.

Who is the Freshman coach, and how does he know Lucas?

Ballard is his name. Says he was the offensive coordinator at Bryan Station when Lucas was there. Also has told people he coached 1 season at Manual for him as well.

He did coach at both places. I don't see there being any issue with him voicing his opinion for other coaches. It's an open job. Is it any worse than applying for the job yourself? It would be different if the job wasn't open.
