I think it depends on what opportunities are made available to him. With parity the way it seems to be in college football I think an argument can be made for WKU to be on equal footing with a lot of schools. I'd hope he'd only leave for the right school in a power conference. Money talks though.

 

There are a ton of openings this year. Combine that with his success, this is the time for him to make a move.

Disagree. Great recruiting base, Illinois plays good football. You are in the B1G W, which is one of the weaker P5 divisions. It's not a destination job, but you could parlay that into a very big job and not get over whelmed. Much easier to win there sooner than some of these other jobs. I would say exact same thing about Minnesota.

Me too, but he's not gonna meet that criteria. The former players ran Golden out, and they will be influential in this hire. Think it's Richt/Cristobal/Kiffin on that order.

For many years WKU was a stepping stone for basketball coaches, looks like it's turning into one for football. The good news is they keep finding decent coaches that put a respectable product on the field, the bad news is they will never get beyond where they are at right now. I doubt if expectations are much more than where they are currently anyway. Win 8-9 games a year and make a minor bowl.

Unfortunately this is the narrative for all the non P5 teams. Memphis may go unbeaten this year with a win vs potential SEC champion and get left out. IMO the non P5s need to secede from the Union/Mafia that is the NCAA and start their own gig. Until the playoff is expanded to 8 or 16 that is just the way it's gonna be.

So by never get beyond where they are right now you mean being arguably, and in my opinion not really an arguement, the best team in Kentucky?? Say what you want but WKU would beat UK and give UofL all they want. If either UK or UofL had Brandon Doughty where would they be?

The history of the program proves otherwise. The use of the word "great" describing the recruiting base is laughable.

You can win at Illinois, it's just always been difficult to do it consistently.

 

Since 2002 they have been to 5 bowls. Two of those being The Rose Bowl and The Sugar Bowl along with 3 lower bowls.

 

They also had 4 seasons in there where they won 2 or fewer games. They are a bit of an enigma.

 

The state of Illinois has a lot of high school talent, getting them to Illinois has always been an issue. Somewhere in the past there have been some bridges burn't between UofI and the Chicago area.

Yes. I think WKU is about as far as they'll get unless something in the way of holding onto coaches, generating more excitement in the program and upgrading facilities changes. I just don't see it happening.

 

I agree they would probably beat UK and very possibly U of L this year.

I think he will be back at WKU. I don't believe he will go to Illinois because they ended on bad terms a few years ago.

I think Brohm is smart to know - not to take just any job. It will have to be the right job for him.

 

I asked someone who lives in BG and has some good intel into WKU football about whether or not Brohm would leave. He told me that Brohm and his family like the city and are happy with their situation. You can't mess with happiness, but if a bigger school comes calling with more money it's also hard not to take that job.

 

Schools will inquire about him, but not sure if there's a good job right now for a HC with two years of experience.
