:idunno: I doubt it, most counties just look at the expanded tax base and enrollment money and rub their hands together and smile.

Yep, as long as the smaller system is financially viable the state will not force them to combine. Monticello and Wayne had no interest in combining until some crooked dealing at Monticello bankrupted that system and the state stepped in to merge them.

Not that I don't love a good discussion about city-county school mergers, but can anyone explain to me why this game is the only district game in Kentucky played the last week of the regular season? Isn't there a "scheduling grid" in place that ensures all district games are completed in Week 9?

This is their second game of the year against each other...I think the first one is the official "District game" this is just a week 10 game.

I don't think you are understanding what they are saying. These two schools played each other twice during the season. The first matchup was a "District Game", the second game was just a game.

I don't think this game counts as a district game. They play each other twice a season and have for a few years. I'm sure the KHSAA is aware of it. This would be a special circumstance probably due to each team struggling to find teams that they can compete with.

Incorrect on both accounts. This was, in fact, the district game. I was told Bethlehem coaches called out ahead to Fulton Co. HS earlier last week (before Friday's game) seeking info and such, and were told something to the effect of, "Um, coach, we're not totally sure as of yet we're coming to your place."

It has to be because 1) they are bad and no one really cares what they do 2) they have trouble getting games and play a lot of cross border teams so the KHSAA gives them a waiver.

I was curious about this too before the game so I checked the official KHSAA district standings last week and they already had City at 1-2 and County at 0-3 in the district. With that said, I think even if the first game was the one that counted, isn't that too early for a district game according to the scheduling grid?

Khsaa scoreboard will count games like that. It does the same in basketball. If 2 teams play in the All A it will show up under the district record.
