Not to steal @gchs_uk9 's thunder but with West Carter beating Fleming County we have a good ole fashioned three way tie in place.

 

That means it is time for everyone's favorite part of the year... to dust off the ole tiebreaker rules.

b) TIE-BREAKER (more than two teams). Should three or more

teams tie for the a district position based upon the win-loss

record, the position shall be determined by the following:

i) If one of the teams has defeated each of the other teams

tied in games contested between them, that team shall be

declared to hold the highest position, and the winner of the

game between the remaining teams (if less than four) shall

be declared the second highest position. In the event of

more than three teams being tied, where one has defeated

each of the tied teams, that team shall be declared the

highest position, and the tie-breaking procedure shall be

re-applied for the remaining tied teams.

ii) If the tie remains, each team tied for the position shall

receive one point for each game won by any four of their

defeated opponents in all games, except for the games

played between any two of the tied teams. All games played

shall be counted in applying the tie-breaking procedure,

including out of state games, with the exception that a

defeated school may be counted only once in the procedure

regardless of the number of games played against that

particular school. Teams awarded forfeit victories (whether

or not a forfeit fee is paid) may count the defeated opponents

of the forfeiting team, provided the game was not replaced

on the schedule.

iii) If the tie remains after application of provision (ii), an

additional defeated opponent’s wins will be added to the

point total for each team until the tie is broken and the

winner of the tied position declared, or until all games are

exhausted.

iv) If the tie for the position involves only three teams, and the

application of (ii) and (iii) results in one team being declared

the winner of the tied position based on point totals, the

highest point total from the application of (ii) and (iii)

between the two remaining tied teams shall be declared to

hold the next position.

v) If the tie for the championship involves more than three

teams, and the application of (ii) and (iii) results in one

team being declared the winner of the tied position based

on point totals, the procedure shall then be re-applied to

determine the next position.

vi) If the tie for the position involves more than three teams,

and the application of (ii) and (iii) results in two teams

remaining tied for the position based on points, the head

to head game played between them shall break the tie, and

head to head competition will break any remaining ties.

vii) If a tie results after application of all provisions of the

above plan, the tie shall be broken by the Commissioner.

I got West. If Russell beats Raceland then they win it but I think West wins out and Raceland beats Russell.

 

But these HCs are gonna be fans of other teams like no other in this situation

What to Watch:

-West Carter needs Nicholas County to beat Bath County. It will not positively effect their score, but with Bath County being counted for both other teams a win for Nicholas keeps an extra win for the other two.

 

- Speaking of Bath County, they can make this even crazier. Since West Carter should take care of business against Lewis and Pendleton, Bath basically has zero shot at winning the District... the best they can do is force a 2-way tie with West Carter which will go West's favor. What they can do though is take either Russell or Fleming's spots with a win. Simply put.. beat a team take their spot. Beat one team: Move to 3rd. Beat both teams: Move to 2nd.

 

Assuming both teams beat Bath as expected:

- If Russell beats rival Raceland (and obviously Bath) they more than likely lock it up. Greenup and Ironton are strong locks to carry points and so is Bath County.. if Russell adds Raceland to win their wins it will be near impossible to catch them

 

- West Carter is pulling hard for District 7 teams. Powell County is their best chance at big points... that LCA vs. Powell game may prove huge as such. Magoffin County can pick them up a win against Breathitt. They most likely need this, as well as a Russell loss to Raceland to take 1st

- Fleming County needs a lot of help for 1st Place. They need Estill, Mason, and East Carter to beat someone they shouldn't.. they also need West Carter or Russell's wins to stumble.

- On that note..the comedy of the situation would be to see West Carter pulling for their rivals East Carter in the season ender. If for some reason West's and Russell's wins struggle and Fleming's excel... it may very well come down to West Carter needing East Carter to beat Fleming to help them out.

I think East could help West out by beating Boyd and Fleming. I think both games are definitely winnable for my Raiders.

Garrard/Estill/Bourbon had this exact situation last season.

Clinching home field is crucial in this region because making the long drive to Pond Creek in the 2nd round would, for lack of a better word, suck. It would be huge for Olive Hill or Flemingsburg to potentially play host to the two time defending champs, but this is the 10 year anniversary of Belfry's last trip to Flatwoods. I know I'm getting way ahead of myself, but I hope to see the Pirate ship docked off the shore of the Ohio river near downtown Russell on November 20th.

 

One thing's for sure, these last three weeks won't lack for drama in this district.
