Why are soccer players so much smarter than football players?

Featured Replies

I think you are right but by posting such a silly thread it kind of points out the ridiculous nature of the clichéd comments about soccer players being un-athletic don't you think? These kinds of stereotypes can cut both ways.

They do. I don't think you can compare the athleticism....the two sports require different types of athletes. Certainly there are a few that could play either, but I'd say there are more that cannot.

Here's how much thought this thread gets from me: I'm done with it as soon as I type this period.

I like football a little less every year. It is entertaining to watch but much of the culture around the sport is quite silly. Or I just don't get it. There is a reason why the rest of the world hasn't really caught on. Probably says more about this country than anything.

Soccer players have more time to study, football players are out dating the cheerleaders.

socioeconomic aspect [/b]of who plays soccer in the US. Generally speaking, you will find soccer players come from two parent homes, higher income, and parents with a higher educational background when looking across the country.

Agree with this. And yet it is the most popular sport in the poorest of the poor countries.

Why?

Because they can.

Take your little kickball and go home, then. I'm having a blast!

The typical NFL playbook is 5-6 inches thick and will contain 300-500 plays. Maybe soccer players are smarter because they have room in their brains for something else.

I thought their brains were just something to bounce soccer balls off of.

New Thread: Why are Team Randy members so much more beef-headed than Team Getslow?

Excellent hypothesis. Keep up the good work. I think it has some validity because as you know, our sport requires players to think for themselves as the game goes on and make split second decisions. They do not have the luxury of running a play and reassembling for further instructions as happens in other sports.

Too busy trying to plan the next flop or critical fake ankle/leg injury.

Name three HS football players in NKY that were valedictorian in the last 3 years.

Tanner Fangman from Covcath was an oustanding defensive back, and got a 36 on his ACT. I don't know if he was valedictorian or not. You can look it up if you have time. While you're at it go ahead and try to find three soccer players who were valedictorians.

Paul Grosser had a 36 on his ACT and was Salutorian at NCC, but if you ask anyone who saw the Region 9 semi-final in 2013 he was just good at guessing right.

As far as NKY, I can't...I can't name any valedictorian. But where I went to school, football players were top one or two almost every year. My son played football, finished top 10 in his class, and got nearly a free ride to college.

Homeschooled?

(just kidding)

You won't see me making disparaging comments about athletes from either sport (unless as a joke). I have kids in both sports.
