September 25, 201511 yr Ben Carson: The World Was Created in 6 Days. Literally. | Mother Jones C'mon man...
September 25, 201511 yr Yeah its move believable to think we evolved from a puddle of nothing and atoms split and eruptions happened and here we are . While I don't share Dr Carsons theological view on the earth being formed in 6 literal days I share the same belief that God did indeed speak the universe into existence . That's the big thing . We can disagree about communion , the last days , eternal security , and other open handed religious issues as well . The man thing is its obvious he's a believer and proud of it . Has no bearing at all on whether he is fit to be a good president or not .
September 25, 201511 yr I don't believe that the earth was created in the time frame that Dr. Carson does, but that his belief and it has nothing to do with running a country at all. The president should be based on their foreign policy, economic agenda, domestic policy as well as a boat load of other things, but how a man believes the earth was created is not one of them.

Agreed. Classic playbook in politics though. You had to know it was coming when his numbers started to rise.

September 25, 201511 yr I disagree, it is impossible to believe in several proven areas of science if you believe in a literal interpretation of creation. If you don't believe science it is impossible to make sound foreign policy, economic or domestic polices as scientific principals can play a major factor in all of those. Just my opinon though.

This man is a world renown neurosurgeon he is far more qualified to speak on all things science then everyone on this board put together. Science is also never proven just accepted until further proof comes along.
September 25, 201511 yr I believe in the science and am always surprised at the very intelligent people I've met who have a literal interpretation of the bible. However, I've never found it to impact their ability to do their job or lead the organization or company. We had a CEO/partner of our company back in the 80's who was like that. It didn't prevent him from growing a local company into an international corporation that is a world leader in it's industry.

Simply to argue the other side for a moment... nobody at your organization or company has the ability to significantly influence education policy on a national level.
September 25, 201511 yr CBS Bernie Goldberg said yesterday that when it comes to Dr Carson's gaffes "He makes Joe Biden sound like Churchill."
September 25, 201511 yr Simply to argue the other side for a moment... nobody at your organization or company has the ability to significantly influence education policy on a national level. Do you think the president get's that involved that they influence content? I don't recall any.
September 25, 201511 yr Do you think the president get's that involved that they influence content? I don't recall any. All it would take is for a literal creationist POTUS to mention his wishes in this regard and half the states in the union would rewrite their textbooks.
September 25, 201511 yr All it would take is for a literal creationist POTUS to mention his wishes in this regard and half the states in the union would rewrite their textbooks. Jimmy Carter was a born again Evangelical. While he was an awful president I do not recall his religious beliefs affecting any policies.
September 25, 201511 yr Do you think the president get's that involved that they influence content? I don't recall any. No of course not, but it doesn't mean that what he does isn't massively influential. If nothing else, the president appoints the Secretary of Education and the West Wing oversees staffing in that cabinet department. Like it or not, the president's voice is influential on the country and there's a significant portion of the American electorate that's not comfortable with a leader that looks at the available facts and information, digests it, and then says "Nah, I like this over here." It's not about absolute proof one way or the other, it's about having the tendency to look at a mountain of evidence of a thing being a certain way and then choosing the other. I'm not among them, but I see why that's a MASSIVE problem for a lot of people.
