Ohio Harbin Ratings

Featured Replies

NKY .... yep. In all, in Kentucky 192 teams out of 221 make the playoffs.

That's almost 87%.... I guess the "self-esteem" factor is working.

And a completely watered-down product most Friday nights. No wonder families go out of their way to enroll their kids at "destination" schools because otherwise you are likely to suffer through limited development for 4 years.

Follow-up....Ohio, Top 16 teams make playoffs.

I'm 99% sure the Top 32 make the playoffs. D1 it is 16 per two regions. D2 - D6 it is 8 per four regions.

You are correct. It is 32 per Division. What I was talking about (and did not make clear) was D1 (which has 2 - 16 team regions). The other 6 Divisions do have 8 per 4 regions. 32 teams in each of the 7 Divisions or 224 total make playoffs, or approx 31% of the total number of teams. Ohio 31% make playoffs; KY 87%.

Quite a difference.

I'm on record as being a Harbin fan. I think it's the best way to determine the playoffs in a state as big as Ohio. Also, the rankings seldom miss a worthy playoff team. Especially since the playoffs have been expanded over the years.

To clear things up, though the last few posts are accurate.

Ohio only has two D-I regions and 16 teams from each region make the playoffs. Cincy area schools are in region II. Top eight host first round games.

All other divisions are broken into four regions, with 8 teams from each region making the playoffs. Cincy area teams are in regions 6, 10, 14, etc. in respective divisions.

Have to add that at 33 out of 37 teams, Sycamore is already virtually eliminated from the D-I playoffs. Guess the Cincy coaches had them pegged right after the CovCath game.:)

The one "bad" thing about computer ratings is you have to win the game to get points. So that can lead to rivals not playing each other if one thinks it would deeply hurt their playoff chances. Most schools are in a league or conference so they may have a set number of games to play there. Then say Division V Little School on the Hill might like to play Big City School in Division II that is 2 miles away but if they do not have a realistic chance of winning then it could be in their best interest to look elsewhere.

But if you do beat a team then you root like heck for them to win every other game so you can get more points. Elder wants Scott County to win every game they play.

It's always silly to me when people try and compare Ohio and Kentucky playoff systems.

Apples and Oranges folks. Apples and Oranges.

True and the Ohio Harbin system could not work in KY and the every team in the playoffs Districts would not work in Ohio.

Does the harbin determine who's home field and all that too?

I believe all games are held at neutral sites.

Most first round playoff games are played at the better seeded team's home field. After that, the state determines playoff sites.
