Ohio Harbin Ratings

Featured Replies

Way early but some interesting Region 2 rankings for teams that have played KY teams......

Out of 37 teams:

Elder is 6th

St. X is 7th

Sycamore is 33rd

This has probably been talked about more times than some of you will care to remember, so my apologies for missing those.... but how is the overall feeling in Ohio about these being the be all, end all with who goes to the playoffs?

Playoffs are earned in Ohio.

Enough said.

With 8 teams per region getting in the playoffs no one has any excuses. Back in the day when less teams got in it bordered on joke.

I think the 1st year of the playoffs in Ohio was 1972 and only 4 teams in the state in each of the then 3 class system went.

Indeed. As it should be.

That must be what was still ringing a bell.

So, 8 per region...they still take as many as here in KY. I'm guessing, thoough that instead of the 7-10 teams total in region that we have here, they have in upwards of 13-15 like some of our old 4 class districts had?

I don't know the exact number, but I would guess the number of schools in Ohio with football as a OHSAA sanctioned sport is close to 800. Pretty sure it's over 800 for basketball.

Number I came up with through research is 718 football teams in Ohio

Does the harbin determine who's home field and all that too?

That's why many believe Kentucky has too many Classes for only 221 teams.

Probably should have 4 at the most. Just an opinion.

Follow-up....Ohio, Top 16 teams make playoffs.

Top 8 host first round games; all games after that at neutral sites, unlike KY where one could play all games at HOME, except State finals.

That's how it should be. However, when the country started the "everybody should play" movement, 6 classes were introduced. It's to make sure EVERYBODY, whether 10-0 or 0-10 gets in the playoffs because we don't want to break anyone's heart.

NKY .... yep. In all, in Kentucky 192 teams out of 221 make the playoffs.

That's almost 87%.... I guess the "self-esteem" factor is working.

I have never agreed with it, but I have no say either. So i'll just keep my boys trucking
