September 24, 201510 yr I was listening to Kornheiser this morning on his DC radio show. He says that a lot of quotes attributed to Yogi actually came from Joe Garagiola. Joe was a great story teller and would often attribute these funny things to Yogi to help the story. Joe G is one of the greatest storytellers in baseball history. I used to love him on Carson. He once told a story about a World Series game. Guy slid into second on a bang bang play. Umpire said "safe" but had his hand up in the year signaling out. Runner said "well am I safe or out?" "Well, you heard me say safe but 50,000 people see my hand in the air so you're out." He has 1,000 of them.

Not saying he was a combat veteran, but still, he did his part. When he really didn't have to. My grandpa toured Japan playing baseball to entertain the troops. He wasn't out in the trenches but that's what he was asked to do, he was good, so he did it. He was always ashamed that he wasn't out fighting with some of his friends so he never talked about it much, but still, he did his duty, IMO.
