September 21, 201510 yr That's a nice idea but its a false premise. Islam and Constitutional Democracy can not co-exist over the long term. There was a LONG period where Christianity and democracy never co-existed. Far too often people look inside the tiny window where they have existed. The idea that Christianity and democracy go hand-in-hand is a relatively new one. I think there are Muslims perfectly capable of separating church and state. Just as there are Christians who are NOT capable of this. Right now the GOP is running 1 - 4 of those folks for their nomination...

If thousands of Muslims are having to hide their religion to protect their life, then why do I not hear about thousands of known/"open" Muslims being killed in the US because of their religion? There any countless Muslims living openly in this country (including my wife and my in-laws), and they are not under threat for their life... I'll ask you this....if the US was ran like those Muslim countries that you have personal experience with and people in the US were allowed to kill Muslims and get away with it how many Muslims would die each day? How many Muslims would even come to the US if it was open season on Muslims here in America like it is some places in Muslim countries?

But if the middle east was full of true democracies there would be more economic opportunity (Pres. Obama's reason for why the Islamic terrorists are doing what they're doing); minimal human rights violations (acceptance of religious minorities and especially equal treatment of women); an independent judicial system where we don't just cut off the heads of our enemies. The list is long as to why we would want peace and stability there. The main reason in my mind is that the US would no longer have to be in the middle east taking sides. Again, this would all hinge on religious pluralism which to me is the impossible hurdle. They have no interest in accepting other religious beliefs and generally imprison or kill those who disagree.
