Lexington Catholic: Quarterback Going Forward

Featured Replies

With Lexington Catholic losing their quarterback last week and preparing to go several weeks without him, who will now play the position? Will it cause much change in the offensive philosophy? Are they still considered among the top teams in Class 3A without the starter?

What is the prognosis for Brumbaugh. I have heard several different accounts. Hopefully he will be back in time for the Boyle game. I was going to attend that one.

I hope he heals quickly and completely.

I don't have an opinion on LexCath until I see them in person but something tells me they'll be okay.

Kirk Fagot, the backup QB will take the helm for the Knights in Brumbaugh's absence.

With the QB change, the Knights will shift their focus more to the run game with Jaylen Jones and fellow Seniors Andy Thompson and Brett Balcirak while using more WR screens in the backfield.

IMO, no. Legend Brumbaugh is a difficult guy to replace on offense. He can beat you with his arm and his legs. He is a dynamic weapon. With Lexington Catholic focusing more on the run without Brumbaugh, they'll have to rely more on their defense to get stops to stay competitive. That's a big problem, if you ask me. With the teams they've got coming up on their schedule, I don't see how they'll remain a competitive team at the top of 3A. Their best hope is that Brumbaugh returns before the season or for the playoffs if they can make it.

If it is in fact a collarbone all hope is not lost.

Belfry's Cameron Catron suffered a collar bone injury in Week 1 last year and was back for the Second Round of the playoffs. Truth be told he could have probably went in First Round.

Riley Hall from Pulaski County also recovered from a broken collarbone in roughly the same part of the season and was back early in the playoffs.

This could be a blessing in disguise for LC. Right now their lack of physicality up front and in the run game is probably their biggest weakness. This time may help them discover their identity in the run game and make them tougher so when Brumbaugh does come back they can make a push.

Junior Kirk Fagot (#13) likely starts. Senior Andy Thompson (#2) likely goes in in 'Wildcat' situations.

As long as the play calling gets the ball into Thompon's, Jaylen Jones, JJ Obugo or Donnie Morris's hands with certainty the Knights should be OK. This may involve simplifying the offense. But all these guys are play makers - when they have the ball in their hands are are not lunging at balls on long route or wide slip screen passes. Also senior full back Brett Balcirak is to good to have the ball.

They will be alright with Fagot. They still have the nucleus of the team RB Jone, WR Thompson, Ogbugo, Morris. They might have to simplify their passing attack just a bit. Their run defense is skeptical of course, giving up tons of yardage... But in return, their passing defense have been good according to stats. Giving up only 190 yrds to Ryle's D1 QB, zero to JC and only 140 yrds vs CovCath and I believe negative passing vs. Boone Co. Keep It Simply.

It's funny that there are people posting about something being broken and the team not having a chance. Unless you are close to the situation and know how long he's really going to be out don't speculate. I was always told people love surprises so stay tuned fellas.....

Man, talk about keeping people hanging. Ha ha. If the young man is going to be back sooner than expected, tell us about it.

I don't wanna say a definitive date because you can experience a setback but it's not what the great folks @ BGP think

Sounds like instead of a break he separated his shoulder or it came out and went back in and he will be back in 2-3 weeks. Just assuming based off of what you are not saying but also saying :)

Happy for him then. Hate to see any kid from any school lose time to injury.

Jones has always been the center of this team. Legend transferred due to lack of PT at Henry Clay. Knights will keep on rolling right along. Hope he has speedy recovery. Hate to see any kid injured.

Just get the ball to Jones and Obugo...something they do not do enough of, especially Obugo. I cannot understand why they have all these special built in plays for Thompson to get the ball in space but not Obugo, or Jones for that matter. I think Thompson is good, really good, but nowhere near as dynamic as Jones or JJ. If I am playing LC I would much rather Thompson have the ball than the other two. When I watch them it seems like the offense revolves around Thompson, sprinkle in some Jones, and JJ is an after thought.

Thanks to LC for broadcasting, posting, and archiving all their games!

I hope he's back soon. I hate seeing kids miss games. By the same token, I hope he doesn't rush back just to get to play and then re-injure it. But either way, Lexington Catholic has enough weapons to continue being successful with or without him.
