I wouldn't be so sure of that. Raceland beat them earlier this season.

They play a 25 game winner tomorrow in Russell. I don't see a cake walk in the future.

Wow! what a shocker... I dont think its a cake walk for Boyd but it's definitely alot easier now.

No disrespect toward East Carter, they had a fantastic season. But I dont see how their loss all of a sudden gives Boyd a big edge. Boyd beat East during the season 15-6. And their closest game inside the region was 7 runs. EXCEPT the game against Raceland that they LOST 3-1.

 

We will see if Boyd can negotiate 25 game winner Russell and either 25 game winner Raceland or 19 game winner Ashland. Regardless, it looks like they have to earn their way to the Sectional.

Williams is a class act pithcer, one of the best in the region. But to say Boyd Co. has a cake walk is another thing. Raceland has giving them a loss this season. And they face Russell Tuesday. I'm wondering why Russell pitched there ace today against Bath Co. and not save him against Boyd Co. Potter and Taylor would give Boyd Co trouble??????????

Im never the one to judge, lets just say the home plate umpire heaberlin (sp?) had a huge impact on this game. Anyone watching not cheering for Ashland can agree. I think even the dozen or so BC fans could even attest.

I don't know the depth of the Russell pitching staff but I do know that (at least imo) that you pitch your best, it is one and done in the regionals, if you save your best and get beat you go home, not a chance to for him to pitch. If you have 2 or three so called "aces" then you can try to decide which one matches up best with the opponets.

Congrats go out to Brandon Williams for coming out and pitching like he is capable of doing. But as far as everyone thinking this region is a cakewalk for Boyd, there is no such thing in baseball. All it takes is one outstanding performance by a pitcher, just like East found out, and your season is over.

I agree, and in Ashland's case any time Williams is on the mound they have a good shot to win no matter who it is.

If it's Bill (or Randy) Heaberlin, then you are talking about a Russell graduate, not an Ashland grad. Regardless, neither Heaberlin would ever consider calling a "slanted" game.

 

It's possible that the plate ump had a bad night with the strike zone (I don't know, because I wasn't there), but the Heaberlins are as honest as anyone in blue.
