I don't know the depth of the Russell pitching staff but I do know that (at least imo) that you pitch your best, it is one and done in the regionals, if you save your best and get beat you go home, not a chance to for him to pitch. If you have 2 or three so called "aces" then you can try to decide which one matches up best with the opponets.

 

I agree with OldRambler. As Leo Durocher said: "You don't save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain."

If it's Bill (or Randy) Heaberlin, then you are talking about a Russell graduate, not an Ashland grad. Regardless, neither Heaberlin would ever consider calling a "slanted" game.

 

It's possible that the plate ump had a bad night with the strike zone (I don't know, because I wasn't there), but the Heaberlins are as honest as anyone in blue.

LOL - sorry about that. Nice catch, Goliath. I wrote "Randy" when I was talking about Bill's brother. I hope Coach Heaberlin doesn't read this - although, I'm sure he'd be "straight up" about any games he'd call, as well.

Umpiring didn't decide the game. EC leaving 9 runners on base decided the game. Williams threw well, as did East's pitchers. Ashland had 2 hits for the game, both came in the 1st inning.
