Cream of the crop this year?

Featured Replies

CovCath is loaded with some incredible talent so is Highlands. Campbell is loaded and Simon Kenton has some of the best talent coming up that they've had in years. Who is the best program over the next 3 years?

Are you talking about baseball? SK loaded? With who? They only win games that Lawrence pitched last year. He was their best hitter. Cupboard bare. Highlands lost their entire starting 8. Still have best pitcher in the 9th, but last year was their shot. Beechwood will be the team to beat in the 9th. Boone Ryle ad Highlands all have pitchers that could beat them in one game, but they will be the best team top to bottom.

Finally, We are talking some baseball. I would have to agree w/ FauxTiger. On paper. Beechwood would be the choice for top team in the area with players such as Combs, Stringer, Slusher, Rowe,Bankemper, Fieger,ETC.... I would also agree that Highlands lost their fire-power, they will be good, but nothing like last season. They will have a couple of great pitchers with Raisor and Doty, but I don't know if I would say the best pitcher in the region. I feel the top three pitchers in the region will be the three kids who played together this summer which is Raisor ( Highlands), Purnell (Boone) and Ziegelmeyer (Ryle). I have seen on social media that all 3 have received D1 offers with Zigelmeyer committing to Morehead.I would also go out on a limb and say the Purnell, Ziegelmeyer , and several of the Beechwood kids all will be in the talk for player of the year next season. With Raisor being a PO, I feel that will keep him out of the talk. Maybe not out of the talk, Highlands posters do their share of promoting their kids, maybe more than their share (LOL) but that is a good thing. I wish more would promote their teams. It is amazing how much more attention a player gets when his name gets thrown around.Cooper came on strong late last year and will get some good pitching out of Friend and Turner. The 33rd will be the toughest district again in this area. Doesn't Scott HS return a pretty good team? All the top teams have great pitching and defense. The difference will be the offense. Last season, Highlands stayed hot on offense. The rest of the teams in this thread were up and down. Should be an exciting season with a very strong 2016 class.

Although not in northern Kentucky, the 17th District has at least three D-I players. Elizabethtown's Hunter Sullivan has multiple offers, while Elizabethtown's Jack Wilson (Coastal Carolina) and Central Hardin's Justin Rouse (Coastal Carolina) have committed in the last two months.

In the 18th District but still in the 5th Region, LaRue County's Cameron Dawson (three-sport standout, will be All-State in golf) and Jaxon Boley (younger brother of Elizabethtown girls' basketball star Erin Boley) are already drawing recruiting interest.

Who from Campbell and CCH is incredibly talented? When you say something like that I think D1.

Can't speak for Campbell but who from CCH will be their stud #1 shutdown pitcher? Just curious.

Beechwood is the team to beat on paper... It's baseball though, so we'll see.

Agree June, NEVER count out a Jeff Trame coached team. They were supposed to be down last year and somehow made it deep into state. I think Jake Ohmer will be top echelon SS if not the best in the area, and Andrew Trame just gets hits and is so steady it's scary.

BW will be better than last year. Something was just wrong with that team, from coaching to senior leadership. With a mostly senior team they could be last years Highlands. What does Ryle have coming? All those P you mention are great and could beat anyone in Rd 1, see Purnell one hitting BW last year.

For this year, Beechwood also gets my vote for "Cream of the Crop". My sleeper team would be Conner. They return a lot of seniors and I think they will surprise some teams this year.

To answer this question, I think you need to look at this year's sophomore class. IMO, CovCath is absolutely loaded with high quality baseball players in their sophomore class. I really think no one else comes close to matching their talent and depth at this age. There are some other schools that have a few standouts, but not nearly as many. So, though 2016 looks like the year for Beechwood, my vote for "Cream of the Crop" for 2017 & 2018 goes to CovCath.

All good points about Scott and Beechwood. I guess I forgot about them. 2 of the very best teams in NKY. Can't wait for baseball season.

Scott has one of the best hitters in the state in Andrew Trame. As well as THE BEST shortstop in the state in Jake Ohmer.

Really over the top, but you are entitled.

Seriously?? I have seen a lot of 2016 players in the state the last two years, you need to get out more. These two aren't even close to the best in the state.

I would say beechwood is one of the top dogs this year but who is going to play catcher this year after the departure of jake Schmidt?

Good chance it will be Bankemper, and they have two very good younger catchers.
