If Tusi is an accurate depiction of the Belfry fan base, then Belfry has a new fan in me. Handling this conversation with grace.

As a NewCath guy, I want to ask if they tried to open it up last night? Did Smith get any catches in space?

A couple of times early in the first half but it was limited for the most part.

I don't know if I agree with you guys on that one or not. I highly doubt Bentley was looking down at the sidelines during any point of that exchange.

But I see a BIG problem with the kid in street clothes approaching the NCC player as he was returning to the field. I'd like to see more of that video and I'd say if Coach Haywood does the kid might not be off the bench next week either.

Watching it again from that video on twitter, I am not as convinced. From that angle it looked like he drove him out of bounds and then got tripped up by a couple of sideline players. From my original angle, I thought otherwise.

I didn't notice the kid in street clothes. I'd like to see that again now.

If he had stopped when he reached the sideline it would have been different. If you see the clip, he drove him right through the sideline players, there is no way he didn't know where he was. I'm sure it will be addressed.

It goes into slow motion on the video as soon as they get near the BHS players...in real time that sequence happens a lot faster than it looks on here.

Should it have drawn a flag? I don't know if the rule states a warning shall be issued first or not on excessive blocking so I'm still 50/50 on that.

Should the BHS sideline have gotten flagged? I'm gonna say absolutely on that one.

Hope this works. On mobile.

Can't say I blame the NCC kid for standing up for himself but a perfect example that both teams were running in the red last night.

If I'm wearing the stripes, I have unnecessary roughness on 44 Red. Everybody loves a pancake block but not 5 yards off the sideline.... I don't really see anything from 32 white that warrants anything... That's just me...

Ha, I re-watched it and edited my post because I agree with you. But you had already quoted my original. :D

Tusi, as indecisive as we are (I'm assuming we both could see it go either way and we've watched a video), imagine if you're a ref and have to make that call quickly in a highly contested game lol.

I don't envy them at all on that particular judgment call.

If I'm a ref I'm warning Bentley about excessive blocking and if he does it again I'm throwing the flag, but again, I don't know how the rule specifically states handling the call.

If I'm the BHS tight end coach I'm handing out a helmet sticker on Monday for finishing the play.

I definitely see how tough of a call that would be but I still throw offsetting penalties after the play.

The concern everyone has is that the refs let the game get out of control. This would have been the prime example to throw a flag that would have no barring on the field position but send a message about control.

I also have heard that the infamous blue object was in fact a NewCath mouth piece. How it got into the Beldry student section is a different story that I am not sure of.

The more I hear of last night, coupled with this video, and the more I think the account I was told of how NewCath wasn't used to that style of finishing blocks is pretty darn accurate.

For all the critiquing of officials it also stands to reason the only blatant missed call I have heard of was the blocked XP that they called roughing the kicker on.

Is the high school rule the same as college and pro?

I also think this is a valid point as well.

I would rather see my TE drive a guy five yards out of bounds finishing the play than letting my back get crushed on the sideline because someone gave up their block a second early

The officials explanation of the call was that the kick was blocked by a different kid than the one who hit the kicker. They said if it had been blocked by the same kid that hit the kicker, there would be no penalty.

I think Austin Hall blocked the kick from the middle of the line. Adkins and Catron blew up the edge and I think it was Adkins who fell into the kicker. I couldn't tell if either of them got a hand on the ball or not.

We need a rules guy like to chime in on this one. I honestly have no idea. I will start a new thread.

A big key to the game last night was field position too.

Woolum consistently kicked the ball into the end zone for touchbacks. You can't emphasize enough how important that can be.

Wellman punted well too the couple of times he had to punt.

Punt and kick return did a great job making things happen, even though we muffed the one punt. Catron must have had over 100 yards in returns.

After viewing the video there was nothing wrong with the block. There is continuation out of bounds in many situations. Everyone else can state their own opinion on activity that followed.

All of the kids you mentioned came up with big plays on special teams.

I can't stress how happy that makes me because our special teams play had been consistently abysmal up until a couple years ago. The improvement in that facet of the game has paid its biggest dividends in our biggest games of late.

NO.

Obviously I wasn't there to comment on what went on, but can BOTH sides quiet the petty bickering. We had two programs with stellar traditions play, and one got the victory..... PERIOD.

UNBELIEVABLE Andy Mac! It's time to move on to next weeks opponent.

No, it was up the middle runs or slants. I would love to see them get him out in open space.
