It goes into slow motion on the video as soon as they get near the BHS players...in real time that sequence happens a lot faster than it looks on here.

 

Should it have drawn a flag? I don't know if the rule states a warning shall be issued first or not on excessive blocking so I'm still 50/50 on that.

I'd like to see the whole video, just to see what else happened on the sideline with the players from belfry, those dressed and not dressed, as well as the NCC player involved. There's a lot of talk aboutthis happened on the sideline and that happened in the sideline, but it's unclear with this video.

Just curious as if anyone has actually seen the video from the top of the press box that has the sound and the whistle? Cannot blame Bentley at all from driving his man even if it was out of bounds. You play till the whistle blows and the play was run to the left right near the sideline. Just sayin'

I've seen it but without the sound. From that angle it looks like Bentley drove the man completely to the fence, but it is deceiving. The camera follows the ball carrier but then cuts back to the sideline after the play ended. The video from twitter has a better angle on it.

 

I've read a lot of differing viewpoints on the play to say the least. People are claiming that there was a lot more going on than there really was and the video just doesn't support that. After re-watching from both video angles, more than once, it is apparent that not much really happened after the play. Here is what the tape shows...

out of bounds and they tripped up over a couple of the kids standing on the sideline, but they were 3-4 yards out of bounds by then. That is a bad place to be for an opposing player and it could have really gotten ugly, but it didn't.

gives him some kind of shove in the back/shoulder when he gets up and then heads back onto the field, through Belfry's sideline guys, and comes out right by the coaches.

 

* A few of Belfry's players come towards the kid, but nobody touched him or shoved him and he didn't touch or shove anyone from Belfry either.

As promised my thoughts on Sunday after talking to someone about the game:

 

First and foremost it kind of bothers me how this thread turned out. As Lawnboy said these are two of the State's premier programs who went to war and all we can talk about is petty things. Accusations of poor officials but no substance to back it up. He said, she said about actions on and off the field. Maybe I am a bit defensive right now, but I honestly am a bit offended that what happened between the boundary lines really isn't being given it's due. End rant.

 

FIRST HALF

First and foremost, this was a very physical game. Tons of big hits, lots of hitting in the box, and an all out war at the LOS.

 

To say NCC owned the first half is a bit mis-leading. The Breds definitely DICTACTED the First Half pace, but owning it is stretching the truth. NewCath did an awesome job of doing exactly what I talked about in the lead up. They took short and intermediate passing and remained very patient. Henschen looked excellent staying strong in the pocket and going to the open man. NewCath maintained balance and Smith appeared 100% for the first time all year and was doing a great job of maximizing yards.

 

First Half Belfry defense played that "bend but don't break style". Very conservative approach but it worked. They forced two NCC Field Goal's and blocked one.

 

NewCath's Front 7 was sensational. The person I spoke to raved about Maleek Lawrence and how he was creating penetration. He also said the Sutkamp kid was a "Belfry kind of player" because he was involved in every play and never out of position.

 

The key play in the First Half was the muffed punt. I am really hard on the Belfry Punt Return team because last year it was by far Belfry's biggest weakness. When I heard of this muff that directly lead to NCC's only Touchdown of the night it bothered me, but truth be told the Punt Return is night and day improved. Still yet, you can't gift wrap 7 points and it almost hurt Belfry.

 

All in all Belfry weathered the storm. NewCath had a great defensive gameplan and didn't play their LB's at the LOS like a lot of teams. I really respect that to be honest.

 

SECOND HALF

 

I am not sure what specific Defensive changes the Belfry staff made, or what they said to the Oline, but whatever it was worked. Belfry went from the very conservative bend but don't break defense to an unit that decided to impose their will.

 

Belfry allowed 22 total yards in the 2nd Half... and not a single First Down. The DB's locked down coverage and most importantly Belfry basically whitewalled the NewCath running game. Horton and Bentley played like the All-Staters they are.

 

The two key plays were the 12 man on the field call on NCC after getting a big defensive stop, and Horton harassing Henschen and forcing the INT after fighting through a hold. Horton simply makes plays.. when the game was in doubt vs. Tates Creek he got a sack and fumble... Friday he basically forced the INT himself.

 

The biggest offensive change from Belfry was Derek Wellman. Andrew Fletcher is an excellent FB, but it is clear the Sophomore Wellman is Haywood's money man when the game is in jeopardy. Wellman and the Belfry Oline simply gave NCC a Death of a Thousand Cuts and imposed their will 5 yards at a time. Once that lactic acid starting setting in the Breds were simply at Belfry's mercy

 

 

 

 

 

Overall, I honestly think this was the perfect game for both teams. It was a highly competitive game, and a game that both teams got to experience an opponent that executes very well and attacks their weak points.

 

I am not sure NCC will see a team as "Nasty" up front as Belfry. Looking at their schedule Belfry is probably the biggest and most physical team they will see, and if DeSales awaits this game may pay dividends.

 

Belfry need a step up in competition especially on the Defensive side of the ball. For the first time they faced a team who took away an entire aspect of their offense and could disrupt them in the backfield.

 

Both teams are along way away from the finished product they need to be, but the film study following this game will be way beyond valuable.

I guess all of the Northern Ky eyes missed the NCC defender (not sure of the #, might have been 32) run 10 yards & cheapshot Belfry's Qb in the back when he was standing 8-10 yds away from the pile after the NCC player was tackled on the INT in the 1st quarter?????......resulting in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Can we just move on, the game is over? Both teams and fans should be getting ready for this weeks opponents. Let it go!

It's just getting old. No matter what is said there's 2 sides to the story and the truth usually lies somewhere in between. Both teams and their fans need to move on and focus on not only this week's game, but also the remainder of the season. Yes the NCC player got a flag for unsportsmanlike/personal foul, but so did belfry at one point. The refs let too much go on and the heat of the moment over took some players judgement. Let's move on and good luck to both teams this Week and the reminder of the season . Look forward to hopefully see both of these teams represent at state this year.
