Scott County's Rodney Haddix ineligible for senior season

Featured Replies

NL actually has a couple of them now. In both cases, administrators, coaches, and others 'in the know' tried to warn the parents, but their warnings went unheeded.

I know of three other kids from the Tri-County area(Whitley, Laurel, Knox)that may face the same problem their senior years. Two of the three knew the rule but chose to do it anyway, with one planning to fight it and the other hoping that no one really knows(very few do because of the circumstances).

One of the three did not even play sports in the middle school beyond the 6th grade due to academic reasons(parental choice), but they stayed back in the 8th grade(one of the rare cases where sports played no role at all) by the choice of the parents thus starting the eligibility clock.

This freshman to be is currently participating in summer basketball and could possibly have a bright future in basketball, but by the letter of the law will not be eligible to play as a senior.

I don't like this argument being that I always did better under the pressure from academics AND athletics, and found myself in lethargy when without extra-curricular activities.

I can certainly relate to the balance of the two.Looking

back I feel the reason I actually did better in school during the

"season" was because it created structure for me.Not in season to

much idle time which hurt me until I got "straightened out" by my dad.

Self discipline is a tough lesson to learn but a great asset to have.

The best thing to say about this thread is: "The world sure is round, isn't it?" In my opinion, Pandora's box is slowly opening. That's all I will say about it due to our rules on here.

I was the same way and have found that my kids are the same way. Their grades are almost always better during their respective sports seasons.

I hope the KHSAA don't drag their buts on this one. Just let the Haddix family know early on the appeal so they can make arrangements for his future.

Maybe he should look at a prep school. That way the whole year won't be an athletic waste if its not overturned.

What do you mean by this?

Scott Co. has been on this road before. I won't discuss the details, but you can probably figure it out now. Hint: Football

Is Haddix practicing with the team while the appeal process is going on?

Once again, the KHSAA proves to be a total joke.

KHSAA is clear on this one. I had heard this a couple of month's ago. It's just that it is just now becoming public. KHSAA has this one right, he should not get preferential treatment.
