Las Vegas Officers ambushed sitting at red light

Gunman Attacks Las Vegas Police Officers in "Ambush-Style" Shooting

Authorities say the gunman approached the patrol car shortly after noon, reached inside the vehicle and began firing. He then ran away and was apprehended after a short foot chase.

The wounded officer was then taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injures. Police have not disclosed the suspect’s possible motive.

A Las Vegas police spokesperson said officers have been riding in patrol cars in pairs since Friday, when another officer was shot in the leg responding to a reported prowler.

When you see over and over on social media "Open Season on Cops", "Pigs in a Blanket Frying lice Bacon" or "Oink Oink Bang Bang" you are going to have weak minded fools think that it's OK to do things like this.

Putting cops on the edge isn't the best of tactics for these morons. As a general rule, cops are better trained and armed than the idiots. The also own the hearts and minds of the average citizen when it comes to the violent acts. Keep it up and martial law will be next. National guardsmen on the street corners. Some of the cities will look like Baghdad.

The war on LEO continues to get worse.

Any officer's death is a tragedy. But is the war on Cops real, or perceived because of increased media coverage? It seems as though any officer involved shooting or officer death gets a lot more coverage than it used to since Ferguson. According to this site police deaths in the line of duty is down 5% over last year, police shooting deaths are down 25% over last year. Police deaths in auto accidents are up 10%. That would seem to indicate that it has been a safer year than last year--highly publicized incidents notwithstanding.

As a citizen, if we were to see this happening to an officer, and were to shoot and kill the suspect, would a citizen be charged?

Darn good question.

Yes, I feel the war on LEO is real. It's as real as the perceived war on blacks by LEO.

So how do you explain the 25% drop in shooting deaths?

It's September. Year isn't over yet sadly.

According to that site the numbers are compared to last year through this date not the totals. There have been 26 total officer shooting deaths this year compared with a total of 49 all last year.

Deaths are not the only indicator of danger.

How many have been shot at and survived? Attacked and survived? How many have been stabbed?

I think we all agree that the anti police rhetoric as afar as people "Ranting about killing police officers" or actually advocating to kill policemen has been as high over the last month or so than at anytime in recent memory.

Being a police officer is and always will be a dangerous job. I think what is the most disturbing about some of the killings this year is the fact that some of the officers were targeted for assault. These weren't random traffic stops gone bad, or walking in on a robbery in progress or even responding to a domestic case...but officers from NY to Texas to Nevada have been targeted for no reason other than the fact that they are wearing a badge.

If not for proactive steps taken by many departments I fear this count would have already been much higher. Unfortunately all departments don't have the manpower to double up in each car, send a back up unit to all calls or they don't have the autonomy to not answer some calls in dangerous areas.

As a citizen, if we were to see this happening to an officer, and were to shoot and kill the suspect, would a citizen be charged?

No, if you are armed and see a situation, if you were the person in trouble, in this case the police officer, and if the officer had a legal right to protect themselves, you too have a legal right to protect them, or anyone else who would have a legal right to protect themselves as well

Yes, I feel the war on LEO is real. It's as real as the perceived war on blacks by LEO.

I thought statistics show that blacks being killed by cops is down and that more white people are killed by cops than blacks?

This is true.

That is why I referred to it as a perceived war on blacks.
