In the larger picture I see this as another attack on authority. Police officers aren't the only authority figures in town.

Had the official suffered serious injury then I could see jail time for a coach.

 

Society is much more comfortable with challenging authority today than it ever has been. Sadly, it sometimes goes too far.

 

I'm pretty sure states have laws in place specifically for attacks on officials. It's getting serious.

It is tough to be a football official from pay, to training, to criticism, to fear of attack. What is really sad is that as a group football officials are some of the nicest, kindest, most fair minded people you will ever meet.

After hearing that the kid that made the second hit on the official was allowed to stay in the game (another player was mistakenly ejected) and committed a cheap shot on the opposing QB as he was taking a knee on the final play of the game (there's a link to a video on the ESPN site that says this happened) I'm not so sure the head coach shouldn't be sanctioned as well. It sounds like he's allowing dirty play to happen.

 

We as a society have become way to forgiving of what we allow our favorite athletes to get away with. It's sad.

The guy's point was that we start it very early i.e. when kids are in grade school. We're to blame but the athletes themselves are the ones being set up for failure.

I know I'll come off sounding like an old curmudgeon when I post this but I really hate what is tolerated on the field or the court now that 25 or 30 years ago would not have been. It's not good enough anymore to make a great play and celebrate, it seems that you also have to belittle the person you make the great play against. It starts at the pro level and filters down to all levels.

Now these 2 kids are on the news tellin them. Oh I'm just doin what I'm told. Bull !!!! Little thugs. Doesn't matter if the coach did tell them to do something. If they weren't thugs to begin with. They woulda told there coach to take flyin leap. Suspend them all. Period. Coach ,kids an all. Terrible. This is high school an these kids where trying to kill this man. Because of a bad call? Or because he called them a name ? Really. ?!?!? Sad
