I love your enthusiasm and I agree that he could very well break the record his senior season. I just do not believe it's likely to happen, mainly because I do not believe he will get the carries in any particular game to do it.

 

I know, he can bust loose for 75 yards or more on one play, so it seems feasable. But on the other hand it's not likely that he gets a ton of carries in a game that Ashland is winning big in. If its a close game and the opposing team is "containing" Baker, by containing I mean limiting the long runs, I believe the carries will be more even between the other backs, to give Baker some rest.

 

That said, I hope he does it, records are made to be broken. I just don't see it happening with the other horses Ashland has in the stable this year. On the other hand, I'm sure Baker could care less about that record, but would love to bring home a championship.

In my opinion I hope that record is never broken. I can remember Arliss had a chance to break it against Rowan Co. but said he didn't want to. He mentioned how Jason Nichols ran for almost 400 yards against Ironton, and it wouldn't be the same if he broke it against Rowan Co....which is very true.

 

Think about this, if Baker breaks 3 80 yard runs he is still 150 yards short of that record. I don't think there will be a game where he gets enough carries. I assume East Carter is fairly weak and he could set the record against them, but no way he even needs to carry the ball in the 2nd half against them.

 

That's why Nichols record is so impressive. He wasnt just running wild over some powder puffs, Ashland needed him in that game against a great opponent and he performed. Its almost a mythical record, over shadowed by a monumental collapse with 1 minute left.

Never know we may need him to carry it 25 or 30 times tonight. Russell D is stingy. He had 27 carries last week. They will need 20+ against Ironton and definitely 30+ against JC. Just guessing he has a monster game or 2 this year.

Im excited to see if Dowdy and Ratliff can improve again this week. There was a pretty noticeable improvement in both from week one. Hopefully we will see a few new wrinkles...

Ashland wins this one. Russell is a good team and will play well regardless of who plays qb but Ashland just has too much and with the mindset I see them having this year I don't see them losing tonight.

Almost game time boys, lets get it done. I expect a large crowd at Henry R. Evans Stadium. Get there early for a good seat. Will be a tough game, but the Cats will pull this one out. Could be a barn burner tonight. See you all there...

About 150 over his average but yeah he would have to go off it if anyone can it would be him.

Maybe a QB will solidify himself as the #1 starter this game for Ashland. Will be nice to read about this one tonight!
