I hope to see some improvement in Russell's passing game this week. So far, they haven't really had any explosive plays throwing the ball. Any consistency at all would open things up some for the RBs. Russell has a good group of RBs, but only Conley has really had great success in their first two games. Depending on who's taking the snaps for Russell, they might take some shots down the field to test the Ashland secondary. We haven't seen much of that so far this year.

 

If I recall, O'Bryan didn't have a good game against Russell last year. He seemed visibly frustrated at times. Russell needs to neutralize him again and not let him wreak havoc and disrupt their offense.

I didn't go to an Ashland practice this week, but I can assure you Ashland will be ready even if the Russell coaches decide to sit McKee.

I would actually like to see Russell sit McKee. Let him heal and get him ready for district play. We will also be able to see how Russell plays with adversity. I actually would like to see our backup in action. I also think we will see more of Conley in the shotgun. He seems to be able to see the field better and find the hole. Lets face it he was in the shotgun for Russell's game winning final drive against Ironton and carried the ball each time if my memory is correct. Conley did gain over 200 yards Rushing against Ashland last year. He would have had more but Baker ran him down at least two times when he would have scored.

I can't imagine Coach Maynard playing McKee this week. I know beating Ashland would be huge but I am quite sure that he would rather win the District and have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Also, you run the risk of injuring McKee's ankle worse.

A quote from McKee in The Independent implies that he thinks he will play Friday. Personally I think that is wishful thinking on his part. I have no doubt that he wants to play, but I've had my share of ankle sprains (never two at once) and if you try to go out and play before your 100% there's a good chance you just make it worse.

 

I seriously doubt the Russell staff will risk playing him unless he truly is at 100%. I just don't see them risking his health. Maybe if he were 90% and this were a playoff game, but not for the sake of a local rivalry game.

 

Cheers to a close, well played, injury free game from both sides. Unfortunately I will miss this one as I will be out of town at a bachelor party, but I'll check in here for updates if possible.

Looks like rain and a WET field. Think it favors the backs for both teams. Baker goes off Ashland wins. Before the seasons over he will get the single game record. Maybe tomorrow night?
