October 25, 201510 yr Author Can't really think of too many live records that are better. "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" is an album highlight, as is "Kathmandu." And the live version of "Turn The Page" still brings cold chills. Too bad Mascaraca ruined it.
October 27, 201510 yr Anyone listen to Josh Ritter? I picked up his new album after hearing a few tracks on the radio, but in researching him I found I like a lot of his older stuff better.
November 8, 201510 yr A little TBT - Caught Collective Soul years ago at Bogarts in Cincinnati while they were touring on the success of this song, and while they put on a fairly decent but mostly forgettable show, when they played this tune it was complete live show perfection where it was so apparent what a stand out phenomenal song this was that it completely out shined the rest of their entire set list repertoire. It was so full of power and perfection, and was just downright goose bumpy great. I've been to countless shows in my lifetime and have many great memories of so many great show moments, but how they delivered this tune with such dead on perfection most definitely stands out as one of the tops. It caught me off guard a little because although going into the show I was already digging this tune, I didn't expect to be so blown away by how so perfectly well they presented it. I think too that there was a similar reaction by the crowd to it as you could see by the look on people's faces that this band had just nailed this tune so fantastically that we couldn't begin to ask for it to be any better than it was. It was at the beginning of the band's career, so they were just picking up speed as a new buzz band, so I don't think anyone was expecting such greatness as that. I admittedly have never followed their career since and can't name another song that they do, and though they very well might have many other great songs, with this one they most certainly hit songwriting perfection that I can hardly imagine anything they've done topping it.
November 8, 201510 yr With what I just said about Collective soul and their live delivery of "Shine" it brought to mind another live song perfection moment that I experienced years ago when I caught this band Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies performing "Shakin' the blues" on the 2nd stage at Riverbend at the HORDE festival. It was in the afternoon and while they were a decent rockin' jammin' band full of boogie that have pretty much stayed completely in obscurity since, when they played this tune it was downright live show nirvana and the crowd was totally feeling it. It puzzles me how they fell so flat as a band following this because they appeared to have all the makings of being something special and lasting with a lead singer that was dynamite. November 9, 201510 yr I went ahead and got the Chris Stapleton CD. I've listened to all of it twice now. I really enjoyed most of it. Almost every song is about Whiskey in some way. Kinda weird.

It's really beginning to freak me out how fast times flies. One of those HORDE shows was where I first saw Morphine in concert. Made a lifelong fan out of me. Hate that Sandman died so early, but the guy went out like a champ — on stage during a concert. "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer" was always my favorite tune by them.
