Fights at Riverbend

Featured Replies

2 biggest brawls I have seen at Riverbend was one at Buffett and the other at Steve Miller. Groups of people fighting.

Dozens of fights every country concert down there for years. Nothing new.

Doesn't happen at concerts where authentic country music gets played.

Did you win any? :)

That's funny right there. I don't care who you are.

Plenty of knockout blows. :whistling: :lol2:

Does David Allen Coe and Waylon Jennings count as authentic? I went to a few of their concerts at the old Oldenburg in Fort Mitchell and fights broke out. One was big enough that the officer working the show saw the need to call for back up, it was towards the end of the show and I remember coming outside and there must have been a dozen of cruisers there.

We were discussing Riverbend.

Ok gotcha, I though you meant anywhere that it was played.

To be fair, you dropped DAC and Waylon. You're getting an outlaw crowd with them. I think fights broke out at Belterra when I saw Waylon there, and Waylon couldn't even walk without help at that point.

I went to quite a few shows their.....Night Ranger, Cinderella, The Outfield, Kansas.....to name a few. Really enjoyed that venue, but never saw any fights break out there.

I saw Joan Jett years ago at Oldenburg.

Does the building still exist I wonder?

I once saw a Waylon Jennings show, and among the thousands in attendance you'd be hard pressed to find one true WJ fan.

It was Lollapalooza in Indianapolis about 20 years ago where he took the stage just before Soundgarden, and then headliners Metallica.

The audience was enthusiastic, but only in a tongue and cheek sorta way as it was apparent that no one there was taking him seriously. It also began to rain while his show was in progress prompting the attendees to begin to celebrate in an impromptu slopfest. A trend started and grew to massive proportions where water bottles were being tossed in the air non stop where there was a constant sea of bottles flying through the sky above. All harmless silliness, but since these were all young rock fans, they just bounced to the country music in mockery. Why Jennings agreed to be on the Lollapalooza bill has always perplexed me.

Nope, they tore it down about two years ago, someone bought all of that land, Christ Hospital is supposed to build there, as they did buy some of the land. Yes, I know, they have the new facility in Fort Wright, as of now.

Fights at all genre's not just country. Just when you allow people to start tailgating 4-5 hours before the concerts starts will always produce drunk courage which ends in fights.

FWIW,

I go to a couple of shows a year at Riverbend and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a fight.

I was at the Paisley show Friday, and didn't even see a confrontation in the Lawn area. I saw plenty of really drunk people though. Plenty of 20 somethings who'd had too many, but many older people who were damn near falling down drunk. That, I don't get.

I think all the reasons given by others results in some fights for sure. Never going to change that. But maybe it's just where we where, the crowd around us Friday included some couples, groups of young friends, young girl friends, and one group of varying ages and all were fine.

Did notice on the way home a HUGE line of taxis waiting outside the main Riverbend gate though. And I mean HUGE. Course it was a Friday night show.

Last couple concerts I went to at Riverbend were awhile back but I saw fights in the parking lot and right outside the entrance several times. Buffet and journey both had fights I watched
