I have a son that is going to be a freshmen at Highlands this year. Last week the kids got sized for helmets and shoulder pads. I was just wandering what type of helmets and pads other teams get? He told me that the helmets were going to be Revolutions (sp) which he said cost $300-350 apiece. I just thought that was a lot of money for freshmen players to be getting this type of equipment. He also said that the varsity player were getting NFL style shoulder pads. Just curious to see what type other teams are wearing?

Family, I believe the entire team (varsity as well as fresh) have the Revolution. Some of the kids don't like it so they have other types. I believe the Revolution is considered the best for helping prevent concusions. (doesn't mean they still won't get one though). I don't think they cost $300 - $350. I thought the helmets ran around $150.

 

I think new shoulder pads will run around $350. Cheep at half the price if it will help deminish injury or possible surgery.

 

As far as I'm concerend, I would rather spend the money on equipment to protect than fluff and puff stuff ( uniforms)

They use Power (Riddell) and Douglas shoulder pads. The Revolution (Riddell) is one of the best helmets made. Dale thinks everyone in his program deserves the best equipment. Hence the Frosh wearing the varsity style uniform. We had practice shimmels. We received hand me downs. Dale's philosophy is that if he can prevent an injury to a Frosh with top of the line equipment, they'll be ready to go as Juniors and Seniors.

No, the kids only pay their sports fees. At Highlands you have gate money,(which by the way is distributed to all sports), boosters, and the team sells Gold Cards (discount cards). Each player is respondible for selling 20 cards each at $10 a pop x 112 players. Those alone bring in some cash.

 

As for the Gate money, well over the past couple years when you play large schools like Elder and Colerain at BPS you can bring down quite a bit of chump change.

 

And of course the boosters do a great job of providing things that all the sports need.

Henry, your probably right about the price of the equipment. I thought the #s 300 and 350 were in there, just couldn't remember what they went with. This may prove a point to my wife about selective hearing. Next time you see her would tell her about my mixing information up. Thanks
