I know I have posted this before in prior years. If you want a very high quality Elk Dinner, make plans to be at Jenny Wiley Lodge on Sept 19th. I have been numerous times and it is absolutely fantastic.

 

If you don't like Elk (which I can't imagine) they usually have fried chicken and catfish too, and their catfish is excellent. The salad bar and dessert bar are plentiful too.

I think it is sweeter than beef and better than deer. It is a little bit tougher, and with less fat than a beef roast.

 

The meatloaf and chili are great, but the roast is where it's at for me. You really get the true flavor of the meat and there is no "gamey" taste at all. One of my favorites.

@Watusi if I didnt have to be in Louisville on Sept 20th I would come down for this.

They have lots of lodging, from the lodge to cabins to the campground. The lake is nice for fishing or boating and there are tons of hiking trails. Stone Crest golf course is first class, there are elk viewing tours going on that weekend, and Prestonsburg plays Hazard in football. Sounds like a nice place to get away for a couple of days.
